Ramon Rivera, a 51-year-old man was identified as the NYC stabbing suspect who went on a random killing spree across Manhattan on Monday, November 18, 2024. The incident left three people dead. Moments before Rivera went on a rampage, he was caught on video preparing for the unprovoked attack on unsuspecting pedestrians.

In the video, Rivera, who suffers from alleged mental health issues, was seen pulling a gray hooded sweatshirt over his head before reaching for a ski hat on the ground and placing it on his head. A backpack was also seen resting near his legs. He pulled out gloves from his sweatshirt pockets before slipping into them. Rivera then reached for his backpack, pulled out a knife, and put it inside the pocket of his sweatshirt before leaving the scene.

Multiple reports stated witnesses saw Rivera, wearing a gray shirt and a ski hat, attacking people using a kitchen knife.

According to Multiple reports, on Monday morning, Ramon Rivera stabbed his first victim, a 36-year-old male construction worker, in the abdomen outside a construction site. The unidentified victim was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Rivera then stabbed his second victim, only identified as a 68-year-old man, who was fishing at the East River on 30th Street. The elderly man was also taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he died.

Shortly after, a third victim, a 36-year-old woman, was attacked near the UN building. She was taken to Cornell Medical Center in critical condition but later succumbed to her injuries. Rivera, who fled the scene, was apprehended shortly after the attacks. Police reportedly recovered two bloody kitchen knives at the scene. The motive for the crime is unclear. However, Rivera reportedly confessed to the NYC stabbings.

The suspect in the NYC stabbing spree reportedly has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 2003. According to the New York Post, Rivera, who spent most of 2024 behind bars over burglary and assault convictions, was released from prison on October 17, 2024.

The publication, citing court records, reported Ramon Rivera was arrested at least eight times in NYC, was arrested again on October 17 after he was released from prison over a grand larceny charge. The arrest stemmed from a burglary in a luxurious Jonathan Adler shop in Tribeca in December 2023.

A judge reportedly ordered him released without bail despite the prosecution pushing for monetary release.


Ramon Rivera also spent several days in Bellevue Hospital’s psych ward. The suspect reportedly assaulted a corrections officer at the facility.

Rivera was also arrested several times in Florida in 2003 on a spate of charges, including DWI, and domestic violence. In 2017 he was also detained in Ohio over an assault case.

Mayor Eric Adams said NYPD investigators were looking into how the NYC stabbing suspect with an extensive criminal record and a history of mental illness was released from prison.
