Micah Williams arrest explored in wake of Jada Thomas shooting
According to Dallas police cited in multiple reports, on Saturday night they responded to reports of a shooting shortly before 6 p.m. at the Black Academy of Arts and Letters in Downtown Dallas. Upon arrival, they learned Singer Jada Thomas was shot in the chest while signing autographs following a performance.
According to witnesses at the scene, Williams watched the performance before getting in an autograph line and opened fire. Williams then fled the scene, prompting Curtis King, the founder of the Black Academy of Arts & Letters, to chase the suspect on foot to the Thompson Hotel off Akard. Recalling the chase, King told Fox 4:
"I went into a state of emotional rage where everything was blur and blurring. I went out the door and said, ‘Where did the lady go?’ And they pointed in the direction where she went. I saw her through the glass doors, and so I just started running after her."
Officers arrested Williams at the hotel lobby before she confessed to the crime. Police did not disclose a motive for the shooting. However, FOX 4 reported Williams alleged she was harassed by the victim last year. It is unclear if the suspect and the victim were acquainted with each other.
However, Curtis King told the outlet he recognized Williams' mugshot and alleged she performed at the Black Academy of Arts & Letters, during the summer program 10-12 years ago.
According to multiple social media posts, Willaims graduated from Duncanville High School in Texas. Former students who recognized Micah Williams described her as a quiet person. A student, Aliyah Mora, said:
“No way?!?! I went to high school and graduated with this girl Micah Williams no way!?!?”
The founder of the Black Academy of Arts & Letters, Cutis King, told WFAA Jada Thomas has been performing at the academy since she was 10-12 years old.
