Eve, the bear, who made headlines in 2017, has recovered from a severe case of mange. Eve lost all of her hair due to the disease and became unrecognizable and the internet is amazed by her recovery as she has grown thick fur again.

For the unversed, mange is a skin disease that animals suffer from due to mite infestation. Inflammation, itching, hair loss, and thickening of the skin are indications of this disease. In severe cases, Sarcoptes scabiei, a type of mite causes mange which is also contagious.

While most forms of mange are treatable, some animals need extensive care to recover from the skin disease.

In the past seven years, Eve's appearance has changed completely. In 2017, rescuers in Northern Carolina found her in a dumpster can on Christmas Eve. While spotting a bear in the region is common for the rescuers, Eve made headlines as she had one of the "worst cases" of the disease, according to the Humane Society of the United States.

She weighed only 30 pounds at that time and rescuers also had a hard time realizing she was a bear due to complete hair loss. According to People Magazine, Eve also got the title of "bare bear" due to her baldness.

Soon after Eve was rescued, she was sent to a recovering center in California. She received treatment for mange along with a healthy diet that helped her regain her health and strength. Despite her treatment, she was not released into the wild as she became dependent on human care.

Eve soon found her forever home in the Black Beauty Ranch in Texas in late 2019. She continued to thrive and soon began to regrow her brown fur on the ranch. She now weighs about 160 pounds and leads a healthy life.
