Actress Mandy Moore is responding to the criticism for promoting a GoFundMe page aimed at easing the financial strains of her extended family, whose lives were impacted by the ongoing Los Angeles wildfires. Users are dissing Moore for asking netizens for money, arguing that she should be shelling out her own money instead.

Mandy Moore, whose own home was decimated by the Eaton Fire, has a net worth of $14 million as of 2024, Comingsoon.net claims. A musician and actress, Mandy Moore began her career at 13 and is most known for her roles in A Walk to Remember and This is Us.

Mandy Moore calls out the haters for dissing her, reveals she lost her own house in the flames

Mandy Moore took to Instagram on Thursday to share a screenshot of her brother-in-law and sister-in-law's GoFundMe page, noting that they “lost their home and everything they own” in the inferno weeks before they welcomed their first child.

"Yesterday, my brother-in-law and sister-in-law Griff & Kit lost their home and everything they own in the Eaton Fire. With their first baby on the way in a matter of weeks, they need our support now more than ever. Griff is a touring musician and also lost his entire arsenal of drums/percussion he uses to make a living. It’s all so much. So many have asked how to help during this unimaginable and stressful time…Please consider donating and sharing to help them rebuild," Moore wrote.

She went online, speaking directly to the haters this time:

"And people questioning whether we’re helping out our own family or attributing some arbitrary amount of money google says someone has is NOT helpful or empathetic. Of course we are. Our buddy Matt started this go fund me and i’m sharing because people have asked how they can help them. We just lost most of our life in a fire too. Kindly F OFF. no one is forcing you to do anything."

Earlier that day, the actress took to Instagram once again to share that her own home in Altadena had been scorched in the wake of the ongoing fires, noting that she and her family were forced to "park and walk up our street to bear witness to all the loss."

Mandy Moore revealed that while "Miraculously, the main part of our house is still standing," most of it was gone, including her husband, musician Taylor Goldsmith, and her brother-in-law Griffin's studio.

"It’s not livable but mostly intact. We lost Taylor and griffin’s studio with every instrument and piece of equipment they’ve ever owned. We lost our garage and back house. Everyone we know lost everything. Every house on our street is gone. My in laws. My brother and sister in law- 6 weeks from welcoming their first baby. Our best friends. Feeling weird survivors guilt. We love this community and will do everything we can to help rebuild and support. Thanks for everyone for checking on us and offering us help. Altadena strong," the This Is Us actress penned.

The Eaton Fire first took root on Tuesday, January 7, and by Thursday evening, it had already scorched over 13,600 acres, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection has revealed. As reported by Parade, the state agency has notified the destruction of a minimum of 4,000 structures in the inferno, which has yet to be contained.
