Laura Loomer, a self-styled investigative journalist has been trending on X for a series of explosive tweets targeting Indian Americans. The controversy started on 25 December, when Loomer publicly criticized a tweet advocating for high-skilled immigration, which highlighted its role in driving economic growth and strengthening American innovation.
In her reply, Laura Loomer rejected the contributions of non-European immigrants particularly targeting Indian Americans. Loomer wrote:
"Our country was built by white Europeans, actually. Not third world invaders from India. @Cloudwatch199 You know, it was white Europeans who created the American Dream, and we didn’t create it so that it could be exploited by pro open border techies like you."
She then went on to make a culturally prejudiced comment:
"PS: why are people in India still sh*tting in the water they bathe and drink from?"
When criticized by a South African-American entrepreneur David Sacks for her tweets where she questioned the nomination of Sriram Krishnan as Senior Policy Adviser for AI at the White House OSTP, Laura Loomer posted a video of Sriram Krishnan in a podcast where someone jokes about marrying an American person for citizenship in America. She wrote:
"Is this your “best and brightest” Indian boy @sriramk, David? Is this the “right guy” with the same name who works in VC talking about how INDIAN IMMIGRANTS in tech should scam our immigration system by marrying US citizens so they can get green cards?"
People's reactions to Laura Loomer's tweets
The exchange between Loomer and X users who have been calling her out for her 'racist' and 'hateful' posts seems unending. One user posted an article by The Times of India, sharply calling out Laura Loomer for her tweets to which Loomer snarkily replied:
"Ok I’m willing to admit when I’m wrong. India does have running water. It just runs out of people’s a**es."
To another person who shared the article criticizing her, Loomer said:
"Nobody cares. You’re not going to shame me into saying sorry. It’s not hate. It’s the truth. And millions of Americans agree with me. If you’re so offended then leave my country."
Another user shared past videos of Laura Loomer praising and supporting American entrepreneur and politician, Vivek Ramaswamy. To which Loomer replied:
"And what’s your point? I do like @VivekGRamaswamy. I don’t hate Indians. Saying I do is such a reach. Why are people so incapable of hearing the truth without screeching “racism”? I think Vivek is a great communicator and he was a great campaign surrogate for Trump."
What does Laura Loomer seem bothered about?
As evidenced by her tweets, Loomer seems to be bothered about Donald Trump's nomination of Sriram Krishnan as Senior Policy Advisor for Artificial Intelligence at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. In one of her tweets, Loomer said that she believes this nomination undermines Trump’s “America First” agenda. She said:
"Deeply disturbing to see the appointment of Sriram Krishnan @sriramk as Senior Policy Advisor for AI at the Office of Science and Technology Policy. It’s alarming to see the number of career leftists who are now being appointed to serve in Trump’s admin when they share views that are in direct opposition to Trump’s America First agenda."
In one of her tweets, Loomer tagged Sriram Krishnan and questioned his political stance by asking:
Hey@sriramk What is this? Why did you donate to@KamalaHarris’s Presidential campaign less than one month before the 2024 Presidential election?
In another tweet, Laura Loomer justified her frustration over Sriram Krishnan's appointment. She said:
"It’s actually very justified for people like me and others who actually have supported President Trump since Day 1 to be concerned about Big Tech executives who only recently decided to support Trump (so they claim) to be infiltrating the White House to make policy while they all have wildly inappropriate financial conflicts of interest and believe in policies that are incompatible with MAGA immigration policies."
Born in Chennai, India, Krishnan advocates for eliminating the per-country caps on green cards, aiming to streamline the immigration process for skilled professionals.
