Details of the incident leading up to Latisha Walker's arrest
The incident reportedly occurred on the afternoon of October 25, 2024 at 1:45 pm inside a parking lot in South Sacramento. According to reports, multiple witnesses said that Latisha was attending to some business when the incident occurred. CBS also reports that the employees of a restaurant said Latisha Walker was inside for less than five minutes, picking up a takeout, when the shooting happened.
One of the key witnesses to the incident was 19-year-old Shynice Cordoba. According to CBS News, Shynice, who was inside a nail saloon at the time of the incident, heard the mother's cry and a noise, but not the gunshot. She went outside and saw that the boy was on the floor bleeding.
Cordoba, who wants to be a doctor, decided to help the little boy. She put tissues on his wound and prevented him from getting up to slow down the bleeding. According to reports, the boy repeatedly told Shynice that he shot himself and she had to reassure him that everything would be fine.
She also referenced paw patrol, a cartoon with first responders, enquired about his age and talked until the police got to the scene. Shynice's accounts of the incident,
I go outside, he's just laying on the floor. I need something to put pressure on his wound...I get the tissue and I put it on his wound. He was talking to me and I was talking to him, he was really scared. He kept saying he shot himself, he shot himself. So I was like, it's OK you're not in trouble. It's fine.
Sacramento police arrived on the scene after being reported of a shooting near a shopping centre on the 4500 block of Mack Road. The police said that the child received emergency care at the shooting site before being transported to the hospital and that the boy is expected to survive the shooting.
The incident is still under investigation to get clarity on the situation and to find out how the boy got his hands on the weapon. Latisha Walker's bail is set at $75,000 and is expected to appear in court this Wednesday.
