MMA fighter Hakaraia Wilson tragically passed away on January 1 at the age of 26. As per recent reports, Wilson was reportedly attending the Rhythm and Vines Festival in New Zealand and passed away at a house in Gisborne.
Born in August 1998, Wilson was heavily inspired by his father, a fighter who got into combat sports at a young age. He began his professional career in 2020 and dedicated most of his life to martial arts, Jiu-Jitsu, and kickboxing. Later was placed in MMA Ballotor. Wilson also accomplished a pro-MMA record of 4 wins and 3 losses.
The Oliver MMA and Fitness Gym in New Zealand shared a heartfelt post on social media in the memory of Wilson.
"It's with profound sadness that we share the passing of a true pillar of our family and community - our brother, Hakaraia Wilson. There are no words that can truly capture what we're all feeling right now," the post read. "Haks, your legacy will live on in each of us—your smile, your laughter, your warmth, and your warrior spirit. Rest easy, knowing your time here, though far too short, left a mark that will never fade."

Wilson reportedly attended the Rhythm and Vines festival in New Zealand, which ran from December 29 to December 31, celebrating the year's ending and welcoming the new year. According to the police, they responded to a house on Einstein Street in Gisborne, New Zealand, where he was found dead on the morning of January 1. Wilson's cause of death remains unknown as authorities are investigating the case.
"The death is not suspicious and has been referred to the Coroner," the police said in a recent statement.
Wilson's last fight took place in October at the Canggu Fight Night in Bali. In this fight, he defeated Mark Alcoba and secured the winning title in the first round via TKO. The sudden demise of Wilson shook the MMA community.
"With you always. Rest easy, young warrior, always in our hearts forever more. We will carry you with us into battle always," Wilson's training club in Bali, Soma Fight Club posted on Instagram.
After his final fight in October, Wilson went through an arm surgery in November and posted a photo on Instagram with the caption, "Be back asap" in an Instagram post. Friends, family, and fans are pouring tributes for the young fighter. The Coconet TV posted a video on social media in the memory of Wilson.
"A young, talented & wise Hakaraia Wilson. Our heartfelt condolences to the aiga and whanau of Hakaraia Wilson, who was a promising young MMA fighter. May you rest with the ancestors you spoke so fondly of," the post read.
