A fatal explosion involving a Tesla Cybertruck outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on New Year’s Day resulted in the death of the 37-year-old Army veteran, Matthew Livelsberger, from Colorado, and, injured seven people. As reported by The Independent, the truck exploded at 8:40 a.m. at Las Vegas Boulevard and Sammy Davis Jr. Drive, and was allegedly being driven by Livelsberger.

Law enforcement sources revealed that Livelsberger had rented the electric vehicle, which was loaded with camping fuel, canisters, and firework-style mortars at the time of the blast. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the explosion.

According to his LinkedIn profile, the alleged Matthew Livelsberger worked for the U.S. Army from 2004 to 2024, holding various roles, including Special Forces Operations Manager (2023-2024), Special Forces Intelligence and Operations Specialist (2015-2023), and Hyperspectral Imaging Integrator at General Dynamics (2011-2012).

Livelsberger completed his bachelor's degree in Strategic Studies and Defense Analysis at Norwich University (2016-2019) and earned certifications in unmanned aerial systems and project management.

As reported by KTNV News, FBI and ATF investigators are examining multiple properties linked to 37-year-old Matthew Livelsberger in Colorado Springs following the attack. Livelsberger rented the vehicle through the Turo app. Authorities are conducting search operations at one of his residences to gather more information.

Elon Musk reposted a string of posts on his X which positioned the Tesla Cyberstruck as safe and claimed that it helped contain the damage. One of the posts read:

"The Cybertruck literally saved lives in Las Vegas today. The local police department confirmed it. Then the mainstream media writes headlines that make a terrorist attack look like Tesla’s fault. This is dishonest and shameful. We need a way to community note these authors."

The Cybertruck explosion is allegedly being linked to another truck accident in New Orleans

Federal authorities are examining whether there is a connection between the Tesla Cybertruck explosion in Las Vegas and a deadly truck attack in New Orleans, where 15 people were killed after the vehicle plowed into a crowd and gunfire erupted.

According to The New York Post, authorities are investigating potential links between two deadly incidents involving rented vehicles. Army veteran, Matthew Livelsberger, 37, from Colorado, died in a Tesla Cybertruck explosion outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, leaving seven bystanders with minor injuries. Meanwhile, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, carried out a fatal attack in New Orleans using a rented pickup truck, killing 15 people.

Both vehicles were rented via the Turo app. The FBI is exploring connections between Livelsberger and Jabbar.
