27-year-old Jamie Komoroski received a 25-year prison sentence for causing a fatal crash that claimed the life of Samantha Miller on her wedding night. Komoroski pleaded guilty to charges of felony DUI and reckless homicide on Monday. At the court proceedings, Jamie Komoroski's mother Traci Komoroski, her father, and her sister also spoke directly to the victim's family and the judge.
After the plea verdict, Traci Komoroski, Jamie's mother addressed the court by first apologizing to Miller's family and then speaking about Jamie, calling her a:
"Genius, compassionate, caring, generous, and loving person. She's been a real friend, sister and daughter."
Jamie Komoroski's mother shared that Jamie had been a good student who graduated from Carolina College. A few years after college, Jamie confided in her about struggling with anxiety and depression. Traci Komoroski continued:
"I often thought her anxiety, and depression was due to being homesick and lonely and perhaps just to the daily stress of life. And I believe Jamie was using alcohol to cope with her feelings."
Traci Komoroski also expressed that she wished she had reached out to Jamie sooner.
A tearful Jamie Komoroski also expressed remorse in court and apologized to Miller’s family and friends. She said:
"I want the last thing that I say to be that, from the very bottom of my heart, with every fiber in my being, how sorry I am. I take full responsibility for my actions."
While holding back her tears, Jamie Komoriski continued:
"Hopefully one day you will be able to forgive me, but I know forgiveness must be earned.... Regardless of if that day ever comes, please know that I will always be devastated, deeply ashamed, and terribly sorry for what I have done."
What has Jamie Komoroski's mother Traci Komoroski done in the past?
According to The New York Post, Jamie Komoroski's mother Traci was involved in a fatal accident a decade before her daughter's DUI crash.
On March 28, 2013, Traci, then 62, struck Forest Fire Service Warden Jeffrey Scheuerer while he was responding to a fire in Clinton Township, New Jersey. At the time, a firetruck partially blocked the roadway and had its emergency lights activated. Scheuerer was killed in the incident.
The accident was later determined to have been caused by a 'sudden' wind shift that obscured visibility with smoke from a controlled burn, according to the prosecutor's office. This led authorities to call the event a 'tragic accident,' and no charges were filed against Traci.
A decade later, on April 28, 2023, her daughter Jamie Komoroski was involved in a deadly crash in South Carolina. Jamie intoxicated and driving at three times the legal blood-alcohol limit, rear-ended a golf cart carrying Samantha Miller and her husband, Aric Hutchinson, after their wedding reception. Miller was killed, and Hutchinson, along with two others, suffered severe injuries.
