Ryan Kobayashi, father of the missing 31-year-old, Hannah Kobayashi, died after reportedly jumping from a parking structure near LAX International Airport around 4 a.m. on Sunday.
This tragic news comes after Ryan spent weeks searching for his daughter Hannah Kobayashi, who was travelling from Hawaii to New York on November 8th but missed her connecting flight from Los Angeles to New York and since then, disappeared.
According to Hannah's aunt Larie Pidgeon, whom she intended to visit while in New York, Hannah was thrilled to embark on her first paid photography job and go to a concert. Ryan Kobayashi and his family had flown to Los Angeles to help in Hannah Kobayashi's search after she went missing. They even held a rally to aid in her search.
What happened to Hannah Kobayashi?
As reported by KBTX, on Friday, November 8, Hannah Kobayashi flew from Maui to Los Angeles but missed her connecting flight to New York City. Security footage at LAX captured her at the airport.
The following day, Saturday, November 9, a brief YouTube video showed Kobayashi outside an event in Los Angeles wearing the same outfit. A brief security camera clip shows Hannah exiting the plane upon arrival.
It is still unclear why she left LAX and traveled 15 miles into the city. However, she sent a message to a friend claiming she had experienced a 'spiritual awakening' and was later spotted with an unidentified man.
By Monday, November 11, her phone’s location indicated Hannah Kobayashi was back at LAX, where she sent a distressing message to a friend, expressing fear. The message read:
“I got tricked pretty much into giving away all of my funds for someone I thought I loved.”
Video footage from downtown Los Angeles shows her boarding the Metro with an unidentified individual. After that, she was never heard from again.
More details surrounding Hannah Kobayashi's disappearance
One of the key things in Hannah's disappearance, according to her family, is the bizarre string of texts she sent her friend on 11th November.
Pidgeon, Hannah's aunt, said in a video interview with KCAL News,
"There wasn't a single emoji... She's an artist, and normally she'd use cute symbols, like a crystal ball instead of a question mark. But there was none of that."
"The messages were odd and unsettling, with Hannah mentioning that someone was trying to steal her 'funds'—not cash or money, but 'funds.' Who even uses that word?"
She also wrote about experiencing a spiritual awakening and feeling concerned about the 'matrix,' sending bizarre messages that shifted from, 'Hi, I can't wait to see you guys. Love you. Everything’s great,' to unsettling declarations.
