Priyanka Sewhani, a 32-year-old resident of Oyster Bay, New York, died after exiting the car on the Long Island Expressway. The New York Police Department (NYPD) verified that the event happened early on Saturday, November 23, in Queens, close to Main Street, according to People Magazine.
At 1:38 a.m., authorities received a complaint of a person who had been hit in the eastbound lanes of the highway. When Emergency Medical Services got there, they declared Priyanka Sewhani deceased.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Sewhani was sitting in the backseat of a 2019 Volkswagen Passat driven by a 45-year-old Uber driver. For reasons still under investigation, she exited the vehicle near the Kissena Boulevard exit in Flushing while it was in motion and was fatally but 'unknowingly' hit by another car, as reported by the police.
Authorities also confirmed that while Priyanka Sewhani's Uber driver stayed at the scene, cooperating with the cops, the driver of the car that struck her did not stop at the scene and fled.
The NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad is continuing to review the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. Further details, including the events leading up to her exit from the vehicle, are yet to be determined.
