What happened to Monique Gilbertson?
However, there is not much information on the cause and time of Monique Gilbertson's death. This is what we know about the case.
On November 6, the police reached Monique's house at 55-and-older community near Nellis Boulevard for a welfare check after a concerned employee contacted the police. In the 911 call made, the employee says,
She called you guys about two weeks ago. She had a roommate issue, and she called because in her roommate’s stuff, she had found a gun, but I don’t know how far she got with that phone call. She said that she couldn’t get a hold of you guys she was going to like throw it in the trash.
According to reports, Monique Gilbertson and Roush met at a Home Depot, and Monique invited Roush to be her roommate. Initially, they got along well, but soon, Monique faced problems with the arrangement because of Roush's cleanliness issues. She ended up kicking Roush out and changed the locks on October 22. According to the employee who called 911, Monique used to contact the leasing office almost every day, but her calls stopped coming around October 22.
During the wellness check at Monique Gilbertson's house, the police saw Roush and a woman, reportedly Roush's wife, but couldn't find Monique anywhere. According to documents, Roush asked the police if they had a warrant to search the house. The police found Monique stuffed inside a freezer while searching the house.
Roush confessed that he stuffed Monique into the freezer after he found her stiff on the dining table. According to him, he did not know what else to do and believed that she died from taking the drugs she bought from him. But, the employee who called for the welfare check doesn't think Monique was a drug or alcohol user.
According to KTNV news, though Roush's wife, who was also at the house during the wellness check, initially denied having any idea about Monique's body being in the freezer, she later confessed to the police that she knew Gilbertson's body was in the freezer for at least 4 days. Roush's wife told the police that Roush gave Monique cocaine laced with fentanyl, and she overdosed in front of Roush.
Roush was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He pled not guilty before a Judge. His preliminary hearing was set for November 27, 2024.
