In a tragic incident on Halloween night, Eric Pait who lost his wife to gun violence in August was also found fatally shot in his garage in north Harris County, as reported by the sheriff’s office.
38-year-old Eric Pait was killed at his home on Hawks Nest Drive, just west of Ella Boulevard near the Greenspoint area. Authorities responded to reports of multiple gunshots in the neighborhood between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m.
With Halloween festivities in full swing, witnesses told investigators they saw a person wearing a Michael Myers mask, like the one from the 'Halloween' horror movies, approach Pait and open fire.
In a statement, HCSO Homicide Sgt. Michael Ritchie said:
“Someone of that description was seen in the area during the shooting. Again, we’re reviewing video, processing the scene, and interviewing witnesses to gather as much evidence as we can,”
Crime scene investigators remained at the location on Friday, examining the scene. In an interview with KHOU11, Monica Melgar, a nearby resident said:
“I was in my room, and I heard about three or four shots, and it was so loud that I thought it was my backdoor neighbors, but it was over there... Things like that don’t happen in this neighborhood."
Authorities are analyzing surveillance footage as neighbors express concern that this may not have been a random act. Meglar also shared:
“I’d like to think that someone’s not just randomly going out and killing anyone that’s outside – but it still makes you want to stay inside a little bit,”
Eric Pait's wife Carman Peterson was also shot dead 2.5 months back
In what seems like a strange coincidence, on August 16 of this year, Carman Peterson, the estranged spouse of Eric Pait, was tragically found dead in her apartment near FM 1960. Peterson's family believed Pait was involved in his wife's murder. However, authorities did not comment on this and did not charge Pait.
In September, NEWS4SA spoke with Carman’s sisters, who made the horrifying discovery.
Martha Stargill and Kimberly White, sisters of the victim, expressed that they had never imagined they would find their sister lying, murdered in her bed.
The sheriff's office reported that the investigation into Carman's death remains open and active, with detectives exploring potential connections between this case and others.
In the meantime, Eric Pait's mother has stepped in to care for their three children: two daughters aged 10 and 12 and a 2-year-old son. She remains hopeful for justice for both her son and Carman, whom she regarded as a daughter.
Police are looking into probable connections to the two cases (if any). They have urged anyone with any information to reach out to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477) or the HCSO Homicide Unit at 713-274-9100.
