A 19-year-old college student, Dallas Roberts, who went missing in Gunnison National Park, Colorado, has been found dead. Roberts was first reported to be missing on October 30 by the Montrose County Sheriff's Office. However, his body was discovered on November 2 inside the national park.
Roberts was allegedly last seen in the Black Canyon of the national park on October 28. The office further provided more information about the missing college student and urged people to report to them if they have any information.
"MISSING PERSON: Dallas Roberts, a 19-year-old male of Montrose, Colo., was last seen on 10/28 in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park area. He is approximately 5'11", 130lbs with brown hair and brown eyes."
The agency soon organized search efforts for the 19-year-old and learned he was in a truck when he raced through the park's entrance. According to Sheriff Gene Lillard, the vehicle was later found to have crashed about 150 feet down a hill into a road leading to the Black Canyon's base.
The Sheriff's offices of Montrose and Mesa Counties later brought a cadaver dog to find Roberts' whereabouts. However, a few days later, the National Park Service officers found a sweater about half a mile from the incident. His family confirmed that the sweater belonged to Roberts.
Drones were then sent into the canyon to check the deeper areas. Finally, Dallas Roberts' body was found lying in an area about 200 feet beneath a bench midway down the granite cliffside.
Days before Roberts' body was found, Lillard talked to the Montrose Daily Press about the concerning situation.
"The family is quite concerned as well. They’ve been trying to do searches on their own too. They’ve been very cooperative in trying to find Mr. Roberts," Lillard said.
"We’re gravely concerned because of the extremely cold weather."
