According to one of the tributes, Charles’s love for the river was more than a hobby—it was a way of life that reflected his spirited personality and deep connection to the world around him.
Tributes for Charles Purvis
Low Country Hare Scramble, an off-road ATV racing event, paid tribute to Purvis in a post on Facebook. They wrote:
"Today, January 26, 2025 is a sad day. We express our condolences to the Purvis and Williams family. Charles “cuz” Purvis was in a terrible car accident this morning that cost him his life. Charles was the cousin/best friend of Rattlesnake Hill landowner, Lucas Williams, who had purchased an Atv days before rattlesnake hills race just so that him and Charles could race quads together for the first time. Charles expressed how much he loved it and wanted to race every race"
A barrage of tributes from friends, neighbors, and people who knew him continues to flood social media. Purvis's friend expressed:
"Charles Purvis, in this town you’d know him by many different names, but to be able to call him a friend was such a honor. I could and would call him for anything and he’d be there and the only payment he would take is a hand shake or my famous chili (or so he would call it that) thank you for making our lives easier and blessed."
Another person wrote:
"It sucked getting the news this morning that another one was taken too soon. Charles Purvis you were an awesome friend and would do anything to help anyone, the river won't be the same without seeing you out there. Everyone please keep Nancy Allen Purvis and all his Family and Friends in your prayers."
Sharing childhood pictures with Charles Purvis, a former neighbor wrote:
"Oh Charles Purvis, what a beautiful gift to this world you were! Growing up next door to you I cannot remember a single time that you did not have pure Joy all over your face! From childhood to helping us move from Riverside to the farm, you have always been a huge part of our family and that will never change! Love you until we meet again!!"
As the tributes continue, it is clear that Charles Purvis’s legacy will live on in the stories, laughter, and connections he leaves behind.
