The people of Charles County, Maryland, were left in shock after a seven-year-old was found "hung" in an elementary school. The incident happened on November 15 in Waldorf’s C. Paul Barnhart Elementary School. While the school staff called it a result of two students "horseplaying," the child's parents claim their questions are unanswered.
The student's mother, whose identity has not been shared, on November 17 took to social media to throw light on the incident. Sharing a picture of her son on a hospital bed, she penned how it was "something no child should have never in life experience."
She added,
"My child who is a 2nd grader was hung in the boys bathroom by a 4th grader."
She further penned how she received a "traumatizing" phone call which revealed her son had been taken to the hospital. The mother confirmed that the principal of the elementary school found "my baby foaming out the mouth & unconscious" in the bathroom.
"I walked into the trauma room with 8-10 doctors surrounding my son. This is the most heartbreaking & traumatizing situation my family has ever been in."
"Everything about this is unacceptable nothing about this is ok BULLYING is never ok. I’m feeling anger & seeing red but my son is here by the grace of GOD and I will forever be thankful ! I have so many questions left unanswered," she added.
While talking to News4, the child's father revealed he received a message from the school which said his son was "in the back of an ambulance with the principal." However, the message did not reveal the reason.
The student's mother also mentioned how the principal told her about her son's condition.
Charles County Public Schools release statement related to the incident
The Charles County Public Schools addressed the incident and shared various details about the incident. In the statement, Barnhart principal Carrie Burke alleged that the incident was a result of horseplaying.
"Two of our students were reportedly horseplaying in a school bathroom when one student’s jacket got caught on a stall door hook. The student was not able to free themselves and the other student involved was also not able to help them."
"This student left the bathroom to seek help from staff and reported the incident to administrators. Administrators responded and were able to assist, but staff called 911 for additional precautionary medical support. Due to privacy reasons, I am not able to share any additional details with you," Burke continued.
The Charles County Public Schools statement further mentioned that the first responders after the 911 report called the incident a possible suicide attempt. However, Burke tried to dispel such concerns. Further, the principal appreciated the second student for reporting their classmate's condition.
The incident is currently under investigation.
