A 41-year-old Florida man was arrested and charged with the murder of his girlfriend, Carmen Carrera, whose body was found dismembered and naked in a suitcase. According to reports, the Florida man, Jorges Javier Quintero, and the woman, Carmen Elsa Escalante Carrera, have been missing since October 29, 2024.
An autopsy revealed that Carmen Carrera, 29 years old, died from ligature strangulation. According to PEOPLE, citing an arrest affidavit, Quintero is charged with 'first-degree murder' as well as 'fraudulent use of personal identification information.'

According to court documents, an Orange County sheriff's affidavit that PEOPLE was able to obtain, and numerous reports on the incidents, this is how the investigation proceeded and how Quintero was apprehended.
On October 29, 2024, friends of Quintero, who were worried for him after reportedly receiving concerning texts from him, reached his residence in Orlando, Florida, to check on him. At his residence, they found a bloody tub and informed the police.
According to Crime Online, officers from the Orange County Sheriff's Office reached the scene and discovered the bloody tub, some bloody towels, a large knife, and what is allegedly a suicide note.
According to multiple reports, the police found CCTV footage showing a man, reportedly Quintero, leaving the house through the backside and driving off in a truck. Soon, it was discovered that Quintero had rented the truck on October 27.
Further investigation led the police to a second house, which Quintero and Carrera were reportedly planning to move into together. At the house, the police discovered more bloody towels and blood splatters on the wall.
Around 1:30 pm, on the same day, the license readers pinged the truck as it traveled away from Orange County, and mobile records showed that Carrera's phone pinged in Seminole for the last time.
The license plate readers with cameras recorded a large trash bag, reportedly in the shape of a human figure, on the truck's bed, WESH reported. According to the Independent UK, the officers also found CCTV footage where Quintero used Carrera's bank account to make some purchases at a gas station on October 29, 2024.
On October 31, the U.S. Marshals located Quintero in Saraland, Alabama, where an encounter between the officers and the suspect reportedly left Quintero critically injured, and he had to be taken to the hospital.

Almost three hours after the shootout, Georgia officials discovered Carmen Carrera's dismembered body in a suitcase left on the side of a highway in Georgia. According to reports, a wire cord wrapped around her neck, and inside the suitcase there were rosary beads, Crime Online reports.
On November 7 Quintero was released from the hospital. On November 25, he was extradited to Florida. Right now, Quintero is held in the Orange County Jail.
