Elise Stefanik, an American politician who is serving as the US representative for New York's 21st congressional district, is also known as a critic of antisemitic rhetoric. Since last year, her popularity among the Jewish community has increased to manifolds following a legal battle against the presidents of three prestigious universities to demand accountability for antisemitism on campus.
According to a report by the National Catholic Register, Stefanik is a Catholic by religion.
The website claimed that the 39-year-old politician is of Italian and Czech descent. She is a cradle Catholic by religion, although she is rarely seen speaking about her faith.
Stefanik's work so far has received mixed reactions from the audience. She endorsed a 15-week federal abortion ban and also has an A+ pro-life rating. She also supported a same-s*x marriage bill into the federal law and became one of the 39 GOP reps to do so.
Her association with Donald Trump, who is set to return to the White House, has often raised eyebrows. Stefanik is criticized for not standing up against Trump's allegedly harsh comments.
Is Elise Stefanik Trump's pick for U.S. ambassador to U.N?
President-elect Donald Trump is actively planning his next presidential term. He recently offered Elise Stefanik the position of US ambassador to the United Nations.
Trump confirmed the same in a statement to CBS. He said,
"I am honored to nominate Chairwoman Elise Stefanik to serve in my Cabinet as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Elise is an incredibly strong, tough, and smart America First fighter."
Soon, Stefanik confirmed that she accepted the role in a statement to the post. She mentioned how she was "honored" to earn the nomination of serving in Trump's Cabinet.
"During my conversation with President Trump, I shared how deeply humbled I am to accept his nomination and that I look forward to earning the support of my colleagues in the United States Senate," she added.
A part of the Jewish community is seemingly supporting Trump's decision due to Stefanik's history of working against antisemitism. A page named Jews Fight Back appreciated Trump and mentioned that he supports the community.
"As a vocal supporter of Israel and fierce critic of antisemitism, this is a strong signal of Trump’s commitment to standing with the Jewish community. Once again, more proof that Trump is good for the Jews."
Elise Stefanik's post is not final yet as it requires Senate confirmation.
