Sherrif Christina Corpus, who holds the distinction of being the first woman to lead the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office since its establishment, finds herself at the center of a growing controversy.

Her troubles have doubled since Matthew Fox, the Assistant Sheriff of San Mateo County, has stepped down, according to a statement released Friday by the San Mateo County Deputy Sheriff’s Association.

Fox's sudden departure occurs against the backdrop of growing controversy surrounding Sheriff Christina Corpus. No details were shared regarding the reasons behind his resignation.

However, Mathew Fox was promoted to the position of Assistant Sherriff after Christina Corpus fired his predecessor, who allegedly assisted an independent investigation into claims of misconduct and power abuse in Christina Corpus's office, according to CBS News.

Earlier this week, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors urged Christina Corpus to resign following allegations of a hostile workplace environment, reportedly linked to claims involving her alleged romantic partner.
