Darrell Armstrong has been arrested for allegedly assaulting someone with a deadly weapon.

The Dallas Mavericks revealed on Sunday that they have since suspended an unnamed employee after assistant coach Armstrong was charged with aggravated assault. In a statement to USA Today, officials revealed that they responded to a call that came in at 3:45 a.m. on Saturday, pertaining to an altercation.

Preliminary investigations have determined that Armstrong and the alleged victim got into an argument before the former allegedly struck the victim, reportedly his girlfriend, with a gun and threatened to shoot her.

According to the New York Post, the Mavericks issued a statement acknowledging the incident, though they failed to name-drop the assistant coach. Instead, they referred to him as a “member of our staff” and an “employee.”

“The Dallas Mavericks are aware of an incident involving a member of our staff and are gathering all relevant information surrounding the incident,” the team said in its statement. “We take this matter seriously. The employee has been placed on administrative suspension pending the outcome of legal proceedings. This matter is currently under review by the appropriate legal authorities. Due to this fact, we will allow the legal process to run its course and we will refrain from further comment while proceedings are ongoing.”

CBS News has reported that Dallas Fire Rescue rushed to the woman's aid at the scene, and shortly after, Armstrong, 56, was booked and charged. As reported by the New York Post, jail records indicate that Darrell Armstrong was booked around 7:30 a.m., while his bond was set at $35,000. Furthermore, the assistant coach has already posted bond, though he has yet to comment on the situation.

The latter's lawyer, Larry Taylor, told the outlet that they are looking into the matter of their own accord:

"We are in the preliminary stages of conducting our own independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding yesterday's incident involving my client Darrell Armstrong," Taylor said in a statement. "We will have more to say about this incident in the coming days."

Taylor also asserted that his client has been an upstanding member of society all throughout his time as a coach and during his playing days. Darrell Armstrong has been with the team for the last two years out of his 14-year playing career, AP has reported. He joined the Mavericks' staff back in 2009.
