On November 22, 2024, following a two-week trial, a Washington County jury found Oregon teen Daniel Gore guilty on all counts of r*ping and killing 13-year-old Milana Li.
A day after Milana's mother reported her missing, on May 10, 2022, police discovered her body approximately one mile from her home and school. According to reports, Daniel reportedly lured Milana into the woods, r*ped, and choked her to death.
Daniel, who ran away from his home in Salem, was 16 years old when he committed the crime in May 2022. He is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree r*pe, and first-degree s*xual ab*se.
Events leading to the arrest of Daniel Gore
On May 9, 2022, around 1 p.m., Milana Li was reported missing by her mom, who came home after a night shift. After that, a massive search was organized for Milana. Police were called to the scene after Milana's mother and a friend found her clothing and shoes nearby while looking for her, and on May 10, 2022, they found her body in a creek off the Westside Regional Trail.
The investigators were able to zero in on a suspect, Daniel Gore, who was a runaway teen from Salem, with the help of mobile data and CCTV footage. Milana was last seen alive with Daniel Gore on May 8, 2022, at 7:45 pm. According to the press release by the DA's office, the police were also able to link the DNA found inside the victim to Gore.
According to the New York Post, two days later, the authorities located him at a local library. Though Gore tried to run away, he was caught and arrested by the police after a 20-minute chase. In Gore's tent, the officers found a journal that reportedly showed his obsession with violence and the popular TV character Dexter, a serial killer forensic technician.
What did Daniel Gore do?
According to The Oregonian, on May 8, 2022, Milana, a sixth-grader at Conestoga Middle School, was making friends with an older crowd when she met 16-year-old Daniel Gore. The publication also reported that the two were aimlessly traveling in multiple buses for a long time before Gore took Milana to a wooded area near where he tents.
According to reports and the DA's press release, he then r*ped her and choked her to death before dumping her body in a shallow creek. According to the Oregonian report, afterward, he went to his friend's home and even tried to make an alibi by texting many of his friends that he and Milana went their separate ways at a bus stop.
