Daniel Aldrich, a 49-year-old man has been arrested by the Costa Mesa Police in suspicion of murdering 38-year-old Julie Anne Sanetra whose body was found in a trash can.
Julie's body was discovered in a garbage can behind a house in Costa Mesa on Tuesday, prompting authorities to open an investigation.
How did the police track Daniel Aldrich?
The Costa Mesa Police Department reported that Julie's body was discovered behind a garbage can in a single-family home in the 1900 block of Maple Avenue. After learning of the woman's death, officers were dispatched to the scene just before 2:30 pm on Tuesday.
Later that day, Daniel Aldrich was tracked down and taken into custody from a Glendale relative's house on the 3700 block of El Lado Drive. According to the authorities, Aldrich was the boyfriend of Julie Sanetra. Costa Mesa Police stated that they 'were in a relationship,' although they have not disclosed a potential motive.
Although the matter was swiftly settled, the neighbors reported that officers approached Daniel Aldrich with their guns drawn as dozens of police cars pulled up to the Glendale residence.
The Costa Mesa Police Department also posted an arrest update on their Facebook handle. They wrote:
"Yesterday evening, Oct. 22, 2024, we arrested Daniel Allen Aldrich, 49, Costa Mesa, at the home of a family member located at the 3700 block of El Lado Drive in Glendale for the murder of his girlfriend, Julie Anne Sanetra, 38, Irvine. The victim had been found in a trash can at the arrestee’s house at the 1900 block of Maple Avenue, Costa Mesa."
They continued to note that:
At the start of the investigation, Aldrich was identified as the suspect and located in Glendale. The Glendale Police Department assisted with the arrest, and Costa Mesa detectives subsequently took Aldrich into custody. Detectives were able to establish that the arrestee and the victim were in a relationship. The case will be submitted to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration."
Detective K. Moore of the Costa Mesa Police Department has advised anyone with any information about the death to ring 714-754-4986.
In reaction to the body found in the dumpster, residents of Orange County were taken aback. One neighbor remarked:
“There’s never a problem around here. Never had any type of violence.”
Another local added:
“It’s quiet, everybody is nice. This is like a big deal.”
The case has now been handed over to the Orange County District Attorney, who will evaluate potential charges against Aldrich. While details about why and how Daniel Aldrich allegedly murdered his girlfriend Julie are still developing, Aldrich remains detained on pending murder charges.
