Candace Craig, 46, from Maryland, was found guilty of brutally killing her 71-year-old mother Margaret Craig. Besides murder, she has also been accused of dismembering her mother with a chainsaw and later attempting to bury her remains. While the incident happened earlier this year, Candace's daughter Salia Hardy pleaded guilty to helping her mother.

According to WUSA9, police were called to Margaret Craig's home in the 200 block of Hill Road in Hyattsville, Maryland, on June 2, 2023. While it was for a welfare check as Margaret's neighbor reported that they had not spoken to her for days, police found the remains of the victim.

The charging documents revealed that officers noticed a decomposing odor inside Craig's home. They also found blood near three trash bags and later discovered brain matter inside them. The forensic team confirmed that the remains were of a human. Investigators also found human remains on a chainsaw and cutting materials in the house.

Salia Hardy later told police that the incident took place on May 23. She overheard her mother and grandmother fighting over fraudulent charges on her credit card. Margaret blamed Hardy for them and threatened Candace to report her.

Then, Candace attacked Margaret, per Hardy's statement, and placed her body in her bedroom's blue bin. Hardy then confronted her mother but the latter told her they needed to dispose of the body.

Candace ordered a chainsaw online and dismembered her mother's body. She also attempted to burn her body on a grill but the neighbors found a fire and reported the fire department. When the fire department arrived at the scene, they could not locate the fire.
