San Francisco IT consultant Nima Momeni was found guilty of second-degree murder by a jury on Tuesday for the 2023 stabbing death of Cash App founder and cryptocurrency executive Bob Lee. According to San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins, Momeni faces a sentence ranging from 16 years to life.
Following the verdict, Bob Lee’s ex-wife, Krista Lee, revealed plans for the family to pursue a civil lawsuit against Momeni's family. Speaking with KRON4, Krista Lee, who shares children with the late tech entrepreneur, emphasized that while justice was served in court, their battle for accountability was far from over. Krista Lee criticized people close to Nima Momeni while saying:
“The blood is on their hands. The mother, the sister, the brother-in-law. Our fight is not over yet. That means there will be a civil trial, that means we’ll come after his mother, his sister, and the brother-in-law. They are all absolutely guilty.”
Krista Lee argues that Nima Momeni’s family should face consequences for allegedly aiding in concealing his actions. During the trial, evidence revealed that Momeni transferred power of attorney to his sister and mother shortly after the fatal stabbing, enabling the sale of his BMW—the vehicle he reportedly used to flee the scene.
Assistant District Attorney Omid Talai stated that Momeni parked the car at his mother’s home in a carport immediately following Bob Lee’s death. Krista also shared that, since the incident, she has uncovered claims about Momeni’s history of violent behavior.
Why and how did Nima Momeni stab Bob Lee?
The prosecution alleged that Nima Momeni was upset with Lee for introducing his sister, Khazar Momeni, to someone who provided her with GHB, a drug associated with assault cases. Using a kitchen paring knife, Momeni attacked Bob Lee on April 4, leading to his death.
As reported by BBC News, both sides of the case agreed that Momeni, Lee, and Khazar had spent the evening together prior to the incident. The defense, however, claimed the stabbing was an act of self-defense, alleging that Lee initiated the confrontation with a knife during an argument over a comment Bob Lee made that offended Momeni.
Prosecutors refuted this claim, noting that Nima Momeni never reported any alleged attack or informed authorities about his account of the events. Toxicology reports revealed that Bob Lee had consumed alcohol, cocaine, and ketamine before his death.
