A new generation has emerged since January 1, 2025, and will be known as the Beta generation or, in common parlance Beta babies. This generation refers to children born from 2025 to 2039 and is projected to form 16% of the earth's population by 2035.

As this new generation of babies welcomed the New Year at different hospitals in San Diego on January 1, 2025, NBC San Diego reported that, among others, Dawson was born at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital just seconds past midnight, while Luca Thweni welcomed life at Jacobs Medical Center at 12:29 AM and another baby was born at Kaiser Permanente San Diego Medical Center at 12:51 AM.

Generation Beta, therefore, refers to the population birthed after Generation Alpha between the years 2010 and 2024. The nomenclature in Greek letters gives a new generation. Australian social researcher and demographer Mark McCrindle is the author of The Names of Generations.

He observes that Generation Beta will be a part of a world dominated by technology and the degradation of the environment.

A beta baby refers to the firstborn of the generation under Generation Beta, brought up during most unusual times compared to what is still considered normal by its predecessors, Generation Alpha, born between 2010 and 2024.

The following characteristics would be defining the Beta babies:

Technological Environment: Beta babies will be born into a world where technology is very much integrated into everyday life. Starting from smart homes to AI-driven education tools, they will have access to information and technology unparalleled in history at a very young age.

The generation of children born after the year 2020, research has speculated, would be the first to be digit literate and comfortable, or at ease, by default.

These babies will be brought up surrounded by devices, not just tools but also extensions of social connections and learning processes.

Social Atmosphere: Beta babies' social lives will change based on what is learned during the COVID-19 pandemic experience. They would have understood how vital virtual contact and adaptability are in people's lives.

They may grow up in a world characterized by remote communication, and their view of relationships will, in all probability, be far removed from those of the past.

Environmental Consciousness: The issue of climate change is now becoming more pressing. Beta babies are likely to be brought up in a home that is environmentally conscious and sensitive to its environmental responsibilities.

Parents of Beta babies are most likely to pass on the value of ecological consciousness, teaching their children to adopt environmental stewardship.

Beta babies will be born into a society undergoing rapid change caused by the advancement of technology and environmental crisis.

According to experts, this generation is going to be much more globally conscious and community-oriented than any other generation. It will find collaboration and innovation as fundamental tools in facing the challenges that lie ahead.

Furthermore, because they are the children of younger millennials and older Generation Z parents, their upbringing will reflect a commitment to equality and adaptability.

This shift in generations might bring about major changes in societal norms and expectations toward technology use, education, and environmental stewardship.
