Anthony Nephew, a 46-year-old man from Minnesota, reportedly shot and killed his wife, his ex-partner, and his two sons before turning the gun on himself. The incident was discovered after a welfare check by the Duluth Police.

According to The Guardian, the police could not determine a motive for the murder. However, preliminary investigations suggest that Anthony showed patterns of mental struggle. He had shared multiple posts on social media regarding his mental health struggles. Based on the 'about the author' from an old column published in Duluth News Tribune, Anthony was reportedly in therapy in 2021 after he suffered a mental breakdown.

According to The New York Post, Anthony Nephew's social media activity showed he was concerned about Donald Trump leading the American government after he won the 2024 U.S. presidential race. It is reported that he also used to share a lot of left-wing posts. In July, he wrote,

Not that anyone cares, but as an Independent voter, I would really like to see both the political parties in our country pick better candidates. We can do better than a binary choice between fascism and not fascism

Below are excerpts from a column he wrote for Duluth Tribune,

More mental health specialists are needed because most Americans deny they have mental health struggles (......)they keep pushing forward, incurring one psychic injury after another, trauma after trauma, collecting interest, until finally the synapses overload, and they suffer a breakdown. For most of us, that's the best result. For millions of Americans, a breakdown leads to suicide — or homicide before suicide.

The victims of the apparent murder-suicide are Anthony's ex-partner, 47-year-old Erin Abramson, and their 15-year-old son, Jacob Nephew, his current partner, 45-year-old Kathryn Nephew, and their son, 7-year-old Oliver Nephew.

The Duluth police department held a press conference on Friday, November 8, to inform the public of a few details of what appears to be a murder-suicide in Minnesota. On Thursday, November 7, the police department was doing a welfare check after a call from the City of Superior to check on a coworker who missed work.

The police reached the house in Tacony Street to find the bodies of Erin Abramson and her son, Jacob Nephew, with apparent gunshot wounds. Further, investigation revealed Anthony Nephew to be the suspect, he is Erin's ex-partner and Jacob's father. He lived about a mile away with his current wife and their son.

NBC reported that, after the identification of Nephew as the suspect, the police set up surveillance of his home, entered his home using drones, and found the dead bodies of Kathryn Nephew and their young son, Oliver's Nephew, and Anthony's Nephew himself, who appears to have shot himself.

The police said that there was no active threat to the community.
