Wes Johnson, the public address announcer for the Washington Capitals, Ice Hockey Team, is receiving an outpouring of support from fans after being hospitalized due to a medical emergency. Johnson, who has been the voice of the team for 25 years, is known for energizing fans with his famous call to 'unleash the fury.'
Currently in intensive care, Johnson’s condition remains critical as he fights for his life. In light of this, a GoFundMe campaign organized by Wes Johnson's friends and family has raised over $137,000 to help with medical expenses. The GoFundMe was set up with the goal of $50k and has far surpassed that as fans and loved ones are rallying to offer their gratitude during this difficult time.
The medical emergency occurred while Wes Johnson was in Atlanta on 22 January to host a charity event for the National Alzheimer's Association. After checking into his hotel room, he was unable to attend the event. Concerned, his wife, Kim, attempted to reach him, and it was only after hotel security entered his room that they found him unconscious and barely alive. Emergency medical teams struggled to locate a pulse.
The Washington Capitals sent their recovery wishes and urged fans to donate to his GoFundMe on their social media accounts. In a post on X, they shared:
