Donald Trump’s second term has been quite eventful, with many executive orders being signed and mandates made within a few days. One of the key policies put forth by Trump asked remote federal employees to return to office and work five days a week.

The directive issued by heads of federal departments and agencies was met with online opposition from a section of users. A video of a federal worker – Genesis Cuesta – who worked as a part-time influencer also went viral. In the clip, Cuesta is seen ranting about Trump’s policy as she says,

“It happened... What a way to end the week. Five o'clock on a Friday, got our notice, effective March 10th, we're back in the office five days a week - no telework. Any… And that's the most f***ed thing. 'Not only did you issue this executive order, Cheeto, but this executive order trumps, pun intended, and rescinds any previously agreed upon telework agreements.”

She continued,

“Before, I was able to telework once a week, when I was in the office every day. Now? Now no mores. I am so upset, I am so mad. And honestly I also feel for the parents, they're going to need to figure out child care, they're going to have to commute. So many people don't live in DC and have to drive so far every single day,' she added. Like, this f***ing sucks. This sucks! And the crazy thing is, we've only just begun... We're just getting started in all of this f***ery.”

After the rant went viral, Cuesta reportedly deleted her TikTok and LinkedIn accounts. However, her clip was later reposted by Collin Rugg (@CollinRugg), which garnered loads of responses. A user even criticized the original poster, as they wrote sarcastically,

“Welcome to Adulting 101, sweetie~!”

Netizens criticize the Federal worker for her rant on Trump’s RTO mandate on the five-day workweek

Genesis Cuesta’s rant unexpectedly went viral after Donald Trump’s RTO mandate for federal employees. Many internet users reacted to Cuesta’s clip and criticized her in one way or the other.

“Oh no! You’ll have to work in an office! So sad 😞,” a user wrote wryly.
“Don't all federal workers technically answer to the white house? Why on earth would you start bashing your boss on tiktok that way?,” another user questioned.
“Why are people so bent about working in an office 5 days a week?,” someone asked.
“Boo hoo ... imagine having to go to work, to collect a paycheck,” another one mocked the federal employee from the video.

A user curiously asked,

“Wait, has she never worked in person 5 days a week before?!”

Another user wisecracked,

“She should have taken her account down BEFORE she posted that 🤡”

Someone jokingly said,

“Sounds like she went back to work full time! 🤣🤣”

Another one added,

“Sorry you have to go to work.. to get paid.”

According to Daily Mail, Genesis Cuesta’s work as an influencer involved listing her favorite finds on Amazon. These lists then earned Cuesta commissions on purchases made through her "shared links." The new memo released by the president meant the end of her remote work as a federal employee.

For those unaware, Cuesta’s rant was about Donald Trump’s mandate from January 20, 2025. In his memorandum, the 47th President directed federal employees,

“Heads of all departments and agencies in the executive branch of Government shall, as soon as practicable, take all necessary steps to terminate remote work arrangements and require employees to return to work in-person at their respective duty stations on a full-time basis, provided that the department and agency heads shall make exemptions they deem necessary.”

Interestingly, the RTO mandate about terminating remote work might clash with the Telework Enhancement Act of 2010. The act required "each executive agency to establish and implement a policy," that further authorized the employees to telework.

Besides the directive, the president signed an executive order on his first day in office to end the government DEI programs.
