Air travel often becomes a hassle when a person has to carry various types of liquid in the airplane cabin per the guidelines set by TSA. While travelers have to be specific about the use of the liquids they carry, they also have to ensure the packing. However, this has now officially changed as the guidelines have allowed 12 types of liquid that could be carried regardless of their size.
According to Union Rayo, these guidelines have long been predicted to change. Initially, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) implemented several restrictions on the total amount of liquids carried by a person into the cabin after the 9/11 attacks.
The guideline allowed a traveler to follow 3-1-1, requiring passengers to carry liquids in small bottles not exceeding 100 ml. Moreover, the total liquid in their luggage must not exceed 1 L.
What liquids has TSA allowed passengers to carry?
TSA has allowed passengers to carry twelve liquid products classified as necessary for travelers. Moreover, they are no more or no less than the items related to daily essentials. The list includes the liquids on which passengers' health and well-being might depend.
- Breast milk: Passengers traveling with a baby can take breast milk or formula milk with them as much as they require.
- Baby food and water: Parents can carry water and baby food for their infants.
- Liquid medication: Passengers can carry their liquid medication, although they are recommended to have a prescription.
- Eye drops: Eye drops are also essential for people with dry eyes or contact lenses. Therefore, they can carry those bottles without a need to justify the requirement.
- Contact lens solution: Contact lens wearers can carry the solution.
- Sanitizer: A sanitizer bottle is now allowed for passengers to carry into the cabin.
- Nasal sprays and saline solutions: Those suffering from allergies or asthma can bring nasal sprays and saline solutions.
- Aerosol deodorant: Passengers can also carry aerosol deodorants for their hair and bodies. However, they need to be non-flammable.
- Cleaning liquid for dental prostheses
- Creams and lotions: Travelers can also carry prescribed creams and lotions for medical use.
- Live fish and other specimens transported in water.
- Ice packs or freezer: Passengers can carry a freezer or ice pack for medical items.
Apart from the abovementioned items, TSA allows passengers to carry large items purchased duty-free or airside. They are already deemed safe, so they are exempted from restrictions.
