The Fresno, California, community is rallying around Clovis West Football player Trevyn Mackey, who sadly passed away days after sustaining critical injuries in a car crash. Mackey’s family announced his passing on a GoFundMe page created to render financial assistance in the wake of the crash.

The fundraising campaign has raised over $58,000 at the time of writing this article. It is merely $2000 short of reaching the $60,000 target amount.

According to ABC 30 Action News, authorities said on November 22, 2024, 16-year-old Trevyn Mackey was driving unlicensed on Highway 168 near Sample Road when he collided with a boulder on the side of the highway.

Mackey, who was a talented football player at Clovis West High School, was reportedly airlifted to Fresno CRMC, where he spent a few days in intensive care before passing away on November 26.

Trevyn Mackey is survived by his parents and three siblings

Shortly after the crash, community members initiated a GoFundMe campaign to render financial assistance to Trevyn Mackey’s parents. At the time, the fundraiser said the donations would go toward covering the teen’s medical bills. Michelle Brown, who organized the fundraiser, wrote:

“We hope our community can come together to alleviate some of the stress and financial burdens the Mackey family will be facing during this extensive battle as medical costs ahead are substantial, and will be overwhelming.”

On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, Trevyn’s mom, Tara announced his passing via a statement on GoFundMe. In the statement, Tara expressed her gratitude to the community for their overwhelming support during the difficult time. She said:

“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I am sending this message. Thank you friends and family for the love and support. Unfortunately, Trevyn’s injuries were too much for him to fight any longer. He took his last breaths this morning, surrounded by his family. 4T4L I love you Rev you have left a gaping hole in my life.”

The fundraiser said any excess funds after Trevyn Mackey’s medical and memorial service expenses would go toward supporting his three surviving siblings, Shelby, JT, and Dani, and their college funds.

Field House Sports bar, where Trevyn’s sister Shelby worked, penned a heartfelt tribute to their employee’s brother. In a Facebook post, they wrote:

“Our hearts are heavy as we extend our deepest condolences to our sweet employee, Shelby, on the loss of her brother, Trevyn, this morning. We are keeping Shelby, along with the entire Mackey and Brown families in our thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult and unimaginable time. Please join us in sending love, strength, and support their way.”
