The Lake-effect snowstorm that severely affected parts of Buffalo, New York, Pennsylvania, and Michigan this Thanksgiving weekend has prompted officials to caution travelers returning home after the Thanksgiving holidays as a major snowstorm of the season hit parts of the US.
According to a BBC report citing the National Weather Service,
Heavy lake-effect snow bands and snow showers have developed downwind of the Great Lakes, and will continue into next week. Travel could be very difficult to impossible in spots.

According to CNN, Western New York received about four feet of snow in the past few days, while in Copenhagen, the snow was about five feet high on Sunday. Amidst the snowstorm, the Mayor of New York declared an emergency across 11 counties.
Meanwhile, in Pennsylvania, severe snowfall also prompted the Governor, Josh Shapiro, to sign a disaster declaration. The heavy snowfall also led to the closure of I-90, which runs through Buffalo, New York, and Pennsylvania and stretches onto Cleveland, Ohio, CBS reported.
The closure of the Interstate caused difficulties for people going back home after Thanksgiving. According to a Fox 5 report, the I-90 highway was opened up for passage completely on early Monday morning.
In Buffalo, New York, the heavy snowfall prompted the Buffalo Bills team to seek help from fans and volunteers to clean up the stadium ahead of the game, as it received about two feet of snow because of the storm. According to CBS, the volunteers had to keep cleaning the field in between to ensure the game could be completed.
According to CNN, the cold temperature will remain the same or go lower in some areas, including New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Minneapolis, and Cincinnati, over the next few days.
