On January 19, 2025, incoming US President Donald Trump announced that he would release classified information about the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr.

He declared so while addressing a victory rally in Downtown Washington when he mentioned that such steps would ensure transparency in governance. The President-elect said:

“As a first step towards restoring transparency and accountability to government, we will also reverse the over-classification of government documents and in the coming days, we are going to make public remaining records relating to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, his brother Robert Kennedy as well as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other topics of great public interest.”

Social media users were divided following his statement. While many X users were hopeful about Trump’s initiative, others were skeptical about the turnout. A person commented:

“Finally someone willing to expose the truth. Been saying for years these cases don't add up. Deep state's been hiding this from us for decades. Time for real transparency.”

A few X users implied the focus should be on the present situation. Others pointed out that he said the same thing during his previous term.

“and excuse me that does what for my gas prices again? what the h*ll do I care about their assassinations now? we cant get back the person who did it,” an X user noted.
“He said the same sh*t last time,” a netizen pointed out.

Many netizens joked about releasing information about aliens and UFOs, while others did not seem optimistic.

“You first TRUMP,” a social media user reacted.
“Alien/UFO docs too, please,” an online user joked.
“Here we go. The beginning of the end,” another person wrote.

Trump reportedly released documents related to JFK’s assassination during his previous term

During his first term, Trump partially released files related to JFK’s 1963 assassination, though he withheld many under pressure from the CIA and FBI, citing national security concerns.

While he had aimed for full disclosure of JFK records by the 2017 deadline set by the 1992 Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act, officials like then-CIA Director Mike Pompeo advised against it, postponing complete transparency until 2021.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Trump’s health and human services secretary-designate and nephew of JFK, has reportedly claimed the CIA’s involvement in his uncle’s death, allegations the agency denies, as well as disputing the official account of his father’s assassination.

Speaking at the victory rally, the President-elect also said:

“And I will direct the military to begin construction of the great Iron Dome Missile Defense Shield which will all be made in the USA and we will get wokeness the h*ll out of our military immediately and make it like it used to be.”

Alongside plans for file releases, Trump’s agenda for his next presidency includes sweeping executive actions on border security and energy reform. He mentioned that he would bring back the merit system, as ruled by the Supreme Court. As a result of this, people will be hired based on competence, ability, and genius.
