Tiger Bech and Ryan Quigley were among several victims who were struck on January 1, 2025, when Shamsud Din Jabbar, 42, drove through barricades at high speed, targeting pedestrians near Bourbon and Canal streets in New Orleans. While Tiger Bech lost his life, Ryan Quigley is recovering from his injuries.
The attack, confirmed as intentional, saw Jabbar driving nearly three blocks before crashing near Conti Street. He then opened fire on police officers, injuring two, before being killed in a gunfight with law enforcement. Guns and pipe bombs, wired for remote detonation, were found in his vehicle. Authorities are investigating the incident as a premeditated act of violence.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to support Ryan Quigley’s recovery and honoring Tiger Bech. The fundraiser which has been set up by Tiger's brother, Jack Kelly, and Ryan's relative, Dom Gambone, has managed to raise over $79k already.
The organizers expressed deep gratitude for the community's support and noted that they had surpassed their fundraising goal. Donations are currently paused while they evaluate further needs from the families, and any updates will be shared as they arise. Both families are deeply thankful for the kindness shown.
According to 6 ABC Action News, both, Bech, and, Quigley, were Princeton graduates who were employed at Seaport Global, a brokerage firm based in New York City. A company spokesperson described them as 'highly respected team members.'
More about Tiger Bech
Tiger Bech, 28, was an all-rounder and possessed numerous qualities both on and off the field. He also played football at Princeton University, where he received second-team All-Ivy League honors in 2016 and 2018 as a return specialist. His skills in key games, like an 80-yard punt return in a win at Harvard and a career-high 175 yards in receiving at Yale, helped Princeton achieve its first perfect season since 1964 and the highest-scoring offense in Ivy League history.
Before Princeton, Bech was a star at St. Thomas More Catholic High School in Louisiana, where he earned all-state honors and excelled in multiple positions. He led his team to three district titles and three state quarterfinals, earning recognition as one of the top players in the region. Bech was also a key member of the lacrosse team, which won a state title and competed in track.
Off the field, Bech was deeply involved in his community, volunteering with special needs students and serving as an altar server. He was born into a football family, with two uncles who played for LSU. Bech had a passion for outdoor activities like hunting and fishing, and planned to study at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.
After high school, Bech graduated from Princeton University in 2021 with a degree in finance. He worked as a trader at Seaport Global, a brokerage firm in New York, before his untimely death. Bech was kept on life support at the hospital until his family could be by his side.
