Lucas Kunce, a Missouri Democrat candidate was shooting an AR-15-style weapon at his campaign event in Kansas City when Ryan Gamboa, a TV reporter who was covering the event, got hit with a metal fragment on his arm.

Senator Josh Hawley, Dunce's opponent and the Republican primary for Missouri was quick to mock the entire incident on his social media.

Lucas Kunce, a gun owner and a strong supporter of the Second Amendment Act, organized the event at a private home in Holt, Missouri, roughly 40 miles northeast of Kansas City alongside former Illinois Congressman, Adam Kinzinger.

Lucas Kunce gave first aid to KSHB reporter Ryan Gamboa after the bullet fragment hit his arm, but thankfully Gamboa's injuries were minor, and he was released from the hospital the next day.

Lucas Kunce then shared a statement on his official X account stating the importance of carrying first-aid kits at shooting events. He said:

"Always have your first aid kit handy. Shrapnel can always fly when you hit a target like today, and you’ve got to be ready to go. We had four first aid kits, so we were able to take care of the situation, and I’m glad Ryan is okay and was able to continue reporting."

However, since he's posted this, his comment section has been echoing with negative comments from people who were unhappy with the incident and the way safety protocols were negated.

Senator Josh Hawley, Kunce's opponent, took to X to mock the incident saying:

"I condemn all acts of violence against reporters and call on Kunce never to shoot another one πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚"

Who is Lucas Kunce?

Lucas Tyree Kunce is an American attorney, Marine veteran (2007 to 2020), and politician. On August 6, 2024, Kunce became the Democratic nominee for the 2024 U.S. Senate election in Missouri. He is challenging Josh Hawley, the Republican Primary for Missouri.

Josh Hawley has been in office since 2019. He is a Republican known for his conservative views on issues like big tech regulation, religious freedom, and stricter immigration policies.

Before becoming a senator, he served as Missouri's Attorney General from 2017 to 2019. Hawley gained national attention for challenging the results of the 2020 presidential election and is involved in important conservative legislation. He is running for re-election in 2024.

The Senate race is closely watched, with both candidates presenting stark contrasts in their political ideologies and campaign strategies.

How Lucas Kunce navigates this incident, as well as his stance on gun rights and safety, could be critical in determining his chances against the highly conservative Hawley.
