A video is taking the internet by storm- one that shows a supposedly dead woman rising from her coffin. The video has been shared over a million times online, drawing varied reactions from scores online.
In the video, the woman can be seen lying beneath a see-through coffin when, at one point, she opens her eyes and stares blankly. In another video, a woman can be seen wailing over the body when she suddenly gets up screaming. She causes a commotion from within the coffin and then promptly "dies" again.
Here's how one user reacted:
"This is like the biggest fear I have at funerals."
Others concurred:
"If I were to see this I don't know how my heart would take it in the moment," one user stated.
"It’s really not even funny for those who have actually lost family members and still in denial that they’re gone," someone else noted.
"Oh hell nah I rebuke any evil spirit," a third person declared.
"Ppl will literally do anything for likes," yet another chimed in.
The comments didn't end there, as scores online had a lot to say:
"Her boss called to ask if she was able to cover the weekend shift," one user quipped.
"I thought it was that crazy eyes snapchat filter," another joked.
"They must really view us as clowns," yet another remarked.
"At first I just thought the eyes came unglued. But when she made eye contact it definitely made me jump," someone else shared.
The reactions were visibly varied as some users were startled but came to learn it was fake, while others were under the impression that it was real.
Woman declared dead and rises from her coffin: Lazarus phenomenon or not?
After someone's passing, embalmers use glue or stitch the body's eyes shut to prevent it from opening. This happens due to the loss of muscle caused by death, and stitching it shut averts mourners getting startled.
In the video circulating online, however, while users initially thought the glue simply came undone, others remarked that the whole thing was a staged skit. An original BTS of the video is also circulating online, where the woman in question can be seen lying in the coffin as she prepares to shoot for the video. Her chest can be seen heaving, indicating that she was breathing.
However, that's not to say there haven't been any cases of people returning to life. Known as the "Lazarus phenomenon," some of the most known individuals include Janina Kolkiewicz, 91, who woke up 11 hours after she was pronounced dead. Upon doing so, she asked for tea and pancakes.
The viral video showcases the potential dangers of social media and how it can manipulate people.
