UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s death has shaken the civil society and left it divided in terms of ideology. Many have even supported the alleged killer Luigi Mangione who is now under arrest, citing their frustrations with the healthcare system.

However, what has attracted the attention of social media users and, of course, passersby is a particular electrical road messaging sign on the Seattle highway with phrases like ‘One Less CEO’ and ‘Many More To Go’ displayed.

As per Komo News, the road sign board did not belong to any government agency like the SDOT or WSDOT, as intimated by Ethan Bergerson.

The report also mentioned that a private construction contractor owned the board. Social media users were quick to react to the images of the phrases displayed on the board as they went viral on platforms like X. One social media user commented,

“This kind of rhetoric is so genuinely dangerous to society.”

Social media users criticised it saying it gave a wrong message.

“I don't like this at all. Sends the wrong message. Makes it seem like resorting to violence is the only way forward, but that couldn't be further from the truth,” an X user wrote.
“This is located exactly near Google headquarters and Amazon,” a netizen pointed out.

Others pointed out this happened because the concerned authorities failed to change the system's password.

“I’m surprised that nobody has thought to include the shareholders who demand their cut of the profits those corporations make,” a person commented on X.
“Fun fact, the companies that put these signs out often don't change the default password,” an online user pointed out.
“changing these signs are as easy as downloading the manual after looking at the make and model number,” an internet user remarked.

The road sign targeting the CEO was displayed after hackers allegedly intervened with the system

Bergerson mentioned that when a crew was sent to investigate the matter, the sign was already removed from display. Reportedly, the road sign targeting the CEO flashed around 2 AM but it went off by 6:30 AM.

However, how this happened or who was behind it was not officially confirmed. Social media users suggested that the sign was changed after hackers meddled with the system.

The sign appeared on Seattle's Aurora Avenue, a major highway with over 60,000 daily commuters passing the digital board. According to Yahoo News, residents like Kelley Beebe, expressed disbelief at such a display as they voiced concern about the increasingly violent tone in public discourse and its possible implications for the country.

Regarding the latest updates in the CEO’s murder, NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said the person charged for the CEO’s murder was unlikely a client of UnitedHealthcare. Kenny speculated that the reason behind the target was due to the company’s size and influence.

The company also claimed the same saying there was no indication that Luigi Mangione was one of its customers. He is now held in custody without bail while a hearing is scheduled to take place on December 30, 2024.
