Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day is in the eye of the storm after a brawl broke out between Ohio State and Michigan Wolverines. The incident occurred after the Buckeyes lost four straight games to Michigan at the close of the Saturday, November 30, 13-10 loss.

In a video going viral online, a seemingly listless Ryan Day was seen asking a passing individual regarding what transpired after the Buckeyes players started a brawl over Michigan players attempting to plant a team flag in the middle of the Ohio Stadium after the win.

The video of a seemingly clueless Day prompted a social media user to quip:

“Well, that sums up the last 4 years.”

Day has drawn widespread criticism after failing to score a win against the Wolverines after the blowout victory at the start of his tenure in 2019. However, it should be noted that Day has a remarkable 66 wins and 10 losses record as Buckeyes head coach. However, the 13-10 loss against the unranked Wolverines and the subsequent brawl has landed him in hot water among fans.

Reacting to the video of Day wondering "what happened", sports analyst and former football star Emanuel Acho criticized the head coach for not pulling his team off the field during the brawl that escalated as a police officer was knocked to the ground, prompting officers to use pepper spray against the players.

“Also, Ryan Day, your whole team is in the midst of a brawl, and you’re on the sideline asking “what happened?” Huh!? Get your butt on the field and command your players to go to the locker room.”
“That takes leadership skills. Apparently, you missed the last 3 years. He doesn’t have any,” a netizen added reacting to Acho’s post.
“Sherrone was in the middle of it grabbing his players out. Stark contrast between the two,” another fan noted.
“I thought that exact same thing. He should have been in the middle trying to stop it,” a fan wrote.
“Dude was just dazed,” a post said.

Ryan Day Ohio State "buyout" tweet goes viral online

After Ohio State’s loss against Michigan on Saturday, head coach Ryan Day told ESPN he was disappointed by the team's performance.

"Obviously extremely disappointed and angry that we didn't execute well enough. This is not easy to accept, and obviously have to take the ownership. I'm the one ultimately that makes the final decisions on things. I felt like we were in a really good place coming into this game."

Football fans turned against Day after the loss, with many demanding that he be fired as head coach. Shortly after, a viral tweet highlighting Day’s massive buyout deal began making rounds online.

According to writer and journalist John U. Bacon, Ohio State will allegedly have to pay him $37 million if they decide to fire him before his contract expires in 2028.

"Apparently [Ryan] Day's buy-out is going viral on Ohio media. It's $37M, and insiders tell me OSU boosters have no appetite for it, with NIL demands, and the like," Bacon tweeted after Saturday's game.

According to Scarlett and Game, Day is also one of the highest-paid college football coaches, earning a little over $10 million in 2024.
