CNN political analyst Van Jones delivered an emotional monologue as the Republican candidate, Donald Trump, claims victory. On Wednesday, during CNN's America's Choice 2024 show, Jones expressed his belief that a new day of terror is nearing for certain groups of people in America.
"I'm thinking about the people who are not a part of anybody's elite who are hurting tonight," said Jones. "There are African American women who know a little bit about being talked down to and know a little bit about having their economic dreams crushed, who tried to dream a big dream over the past couple of months. And tonight, they're trading in a lot of hope for a lot of hurt."
Jones further elaborated his speech by saying,
"They thought tomorrow morning they’re going to walk out with their shoulders back a little bit, maybe able to breathe for the first time and feel like they belong someplace,” Jones said just before 1 a.m. on Wednesday. “They did everything that they knew how to do, and it’s going to be harder than it should be tomorrow for them to hold their heads up.”
The internet reacts to Van Jones' dire comments
Jones took to social media to post a snippet from his monologue and added a caption stating,
"People woke up this morning with a big dream. They are going to wake up tomorrow in a nightmare. But we will find a way through."
In the video clip, Jones is seen to further comment,
"It's not the elites who are gonna pay the price. It's people who woke up this morning with a dream and are going to bed with a nightmare. Those people deserve to be respected and held and talked to. Those are the people who are gonna pay the price for whatever Donald Trump is going to do."
Soon after this post on X, people in the comments started critiquing and trolling his view. The post has over 2k comments, most of which are against Jones' views. One user frustratingly stated,
"Stop with the division man..."
Another user wrote,
"No, we're dreamimg bigger than ever before! This is a time to celebrate. Kamala brought in millions of illegals, increases prices, crime, and war. We are ready for a new chapter."
Several others disagreed with Van Jones and commented on his post.
"This is the dumbest sh*t I’ve ever watched. Give it a rest. Sh*ts overplayed. It’s time to get back to reality." One user retorted
"So what social dilemma are you going to create now?" a user questioned.
"Try gracious defeat. The talking points you carry are analyzed and considered by the other half and found to be off. By a lot," someone commented.
"Grow up," someone said.
"If you started telling the truth and quit fear mongering, people probably wouldn’t feel that way," another noted.
Van Jones is an ex-adviser to former President Barack Obama and a prominent face of CNN during the 2024 presidential election. The Yale-educated attorney was the main advocate for the Green Jobs Act, which was signed into law during the Bush government in 2007. Later, during the Obama presidency, the legislation provided $500 million in national funding for green job training programs.
The 56-year-old CNN commentator has been visibly tearful many times before, including when Joe Biden won the presidency in 2020. He was seemingly emotional over Biden's win and had to gather himself on television.
