Journalist Taylor Lorenz is making headlines for her response to the mounting backlash she has been subjected to, stemming from leaked photos of her being the only one to wear a double mask at the TikTok-sponsored Trump inauguration party on Sunday.
When some users began questioning if the Republican party was growing on the journalist, and others what she was doing at the party in the first place, Taylor Lorenz took to X to issue the following statement in her defense:
"You guys are so weird with the creep shots, just say hi to me! I am a normal person and I’m a reporter covering TikTok and influencers, of course I’m gonna be at the TikTok influencer event. You can read my story when it’s out at some point today :)."

On Sunday's celebration, several influencers and TikTokers were spotted sporting TikTok earmuffs and MAGA hats. The event dubbed the Power 30 Awards, took place just hours after TikTok tried to fight the ban in the nation, and almost all social media influencers who lent a hand in Trump's re-election were present.
Several images of Taylor Lorenz began circulating online, all of which depict her wearing an N95 mask beneath a shiny cloth one. When one user accused her of being "a crazy lady wandering around the Trump inauguration parties and balls wearing 2 masks." Lorenz responded with a cutthroat comment:
"I had my Lana mask on over my N95 to make it cute and of course this b*tch is triggered."
The party was hosted by Raquel Debono, who is known for championing the "Make America Hot Again" conservative dating events. CJ Pearson, co-chair of the Republican National Committee Youth Advisory Council, also lent a hand:
"2024 was the first influencer election," Pearson told Reuters at the party. "When we look at the mandate that President Trump was given, it was because of young voters, and young voters were reached uniquely because of TikTok."
Among others, Bryce Hall, a prominent TikToker, also lauded the president-elect:
"Shout out to Donald Trump," he said. Now he understands the power of Gen Z."
The party drew contributions of about $50,000, and several prominent guests were present, including Trump campaign adviser, Alex Bruesewitz, Republican political activist, Scott Presler, and former British Prime Minister, Liz Truss. Boxer Scott McGregor was also in attendance.
“If anyone can negotiate a deal that keeps TikTok alive while simultaneously protecting the data of the American people, it’s President Trump,” Bruesewitz told the crowd, Politico has reported.
Taylor Lorenz is a controversial tech culture columnist who previously worked for the Washington Post. However, just this past October, she quit her job to parlay into launching her own publication on Substack.
