The open shooting at a Wisconsin school has left the entire nation in shock, along with President Joe Biden. The suspected shooter killed a student and teacher at the school and later died by suicide. Biden recently released a statement addressing the incident and mentioned how it is "unconscionable."

The incident took place on Monday, December 16, at Abundant Life Christian School. A 15-year-old female student opened fire with a handgun and shot a teacher and another teenager. The two have been pronounced dead. On the other hand, the student also injured six other people who were taken to the hospital. Among them, two are currently in critical condition.

About a week before their Christmas break began, a second grader of the Christian school called the emergency services and informed them about the shooting. Dozens of police officers then rushed to the school.

Joe Biden released an official statement expressing his shock at the incident.

"Today, families in Madison, Wisconsin, are grieving the loss of those who were killed and wounded at Abundant Life Christian School. It’s shocking and unconscionable."

He addded,

"We need Congress to act. Now."

The statement further read,

"From Newtown to Uvalde, Parkland to Madison, to so many other shootings that don’t receive attention – it is unacceptable that we are unable to protect our children from this scourge of gun violence. We cannot continue to accept it as normal."
"Every child deserves to feel safe in their class room. Students across our country should be learning how to read and write – not having to learn how to duck and cover."

Biden also mentioned how he and Jill have been praying for the victims of the gun violence. He has also offered support to the local authorities in solving the case.

Joe Biden then added how his administration has passed the "most significant gun safety legislation in nearly 30 years" and taken action to reduce such violence. He also created the "first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention." However, as more strict action is needed, he has asked Congress to pass commonsense gun safety laws.

Who opened fire at the Wisconsin school?

Following the shooting at the school in Wisconsin, Madison Police Chief Shon F. Barnes addressed the incident in a press conference. According to the Associated Press, Barnes revealed that the shooter had been identified as Natalie Rupnow, who also went by Samantha.

Moreover, the emergency services were called shortly before 11 am, and the first responders reached the school in three minutes. Barnes revealed that they found Rupnow with a gunshot wound and died on the way to the hospital.

The shooter's family is allegedly cooperating in the investigation, while other students and their families are still traumatized by the shooting.
