Serenity Campos, a 2nd grader from Borger, Texas, lost her life in an incident that unfolded on January 24. The incident has left the entire community in shock as it took away the life of a child. A fundraiser was set up on GoFundMe for the little girl's family to support them during this difficult time, and more than 71,000 have been raised.
The Borger Police Department, in a press release, revealed that their officers were called to Gateway Elementary School after the incident unfolded. For the unversed, the school is located in the town of Borger, Texas. The incident took place at around 8:00 am on Friday at the student drop-off area.
The press release confirmed that Campos' coat was stuck in a vehicle door while exiting. While a school official tried to save her life, it could not be stopped.
"Despite the presence of a senior school administrator who immediately attempted to intervene, the incident happened so quickly that it could not be stopped."
The Borger Police Department further sent condolences to the 2nd grader's family.
"Our hearts go out to all those affected by this horrible accident as they navigate this devastating loss. The entire community grieves alongside them."
"At this time, we ask for understanding, patience, and compassion for all those affected. Please join us in keeping the family in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time," the Borger PD added.
How much amount has been raised for Serenity Campos's family and funeral?
Serenity Campos's GoFundMe page revealed that the funds raised will help her parents, who are also financially burdened. It read,
"Daniela and Daniel Campos, her loving parents, are now faced with the unimaginable grief of losing their daughter while also caring for their three other children."
"As they navigate this heartbreaking time, the family is also faced with the financial burden of funeral expenses and daily needs."
So far, $71,600 has been raised from 1.2k donations. The set target is $75,000.
The entire community has come together to support the Campos family. They have also set up a vigil for Serenity Campos in front of Gateway Elementary.
Brandon Strope, assistant city manager and public information officer, recently told People Magazine in a statement that the incident was a tragic accident. Moreover, the police confirmed that there is no "reason to believe that criminal charges will be filed."
