Saegertown PA shelter-in-place order lifted after industrial plant explosion injures 12

An explosion occurred recently at an industrial plant in Saegertown, Crawford County, Pennsylvania. It left 12 people injured, including a few firefighters. While a shelter-in-place order was issued by local officials, it was later lifted.

According to WSEE-TV, the incident happened around 10:30 pm on Sunday, February 9, at a Parker LORD facility. The facility is known for manufacturing coatings, adhesives, and materials used in oil and gas, aerospace, automotive, and industrial industries.

The industry in Saegertown is allegedly the largest facility within LORD that employs more than 235 people. YourEarie.com reported that the company's press release from 2018 revealed its manufacturing details. The press release read,

"Materials made at LORD’s Saegertown facility are used in the production of almost all passenger vehicles throughout the world. The facility produces a wide variety of LORD acrylic, urethane, and epoxy adhesives, as well as Chemlok® rubber-to-substrate adhesives. Additionally, the plant produces specialty intermediate chemicals and coatings products that are supplied to customers around the world."

How many people were injured in an explosion in Saegertown?

The explosion in Saegertown had several eyewitnesses who have also shared pictures on social media. The public safety officials later confirmed the incident. With the help of a triggered alarm, firefighters responded and reached the facility. After the explosion, 12 people were allegedly left injured. Among them, five were employees of the facility and four were firefighters.

One of the injured people was taken to UPMC Hamot, while others were treated at Meadville Medical Center.

The Vice President of International HR and External Affairs at Parker Hannifin, Christopher Farage, addressed the incident in a statement to KDKA-TV. Farage mentioned how the fire was soon isolated and all the injured people were given medical assistance.

"Local officials issued a shelter-in-place order to surrounding businesses and residences as a precaution, which [was] lifted several hours later. The fire has now been isolated."
"There was major damage to the facility and minor injuries were reported. All injured parties have been or are being treated," Farage added.
"We offer our sincere thanks to the local fire department, emergency management and first responders and wish all of those who were injured a speedy recovery. Once the investigation of the cause of the fire and explosion is complete, we will learn from this incident and continue to place the safety of our team members and our communities as our highest priority."

All operations within the facility in Saegertown are suspended until further notice. The cause of the explosion has not been revealed yet and is allegedly under investigation.
