President-elect Donald Trump has been invited by California governor Gavin Newsom, to meet the people affected by the LA wildfires. On January 10, 2025 the governor posted an image of the letter on his X account. Newsom wrote to the President:

“As you prepare to assume the presidency once more, I invite you to come to California again — to meet with the Americans affected by these fires, see the devastation firsthand, and join me and others in thanking the heroic firefighters and first responders who are putting their lives on the line.”

Social media users reacted to this invitation, as many anticipated Trump's actions and measures for the people affected by the LA wildfires. An X user commented:

“RESIGN. thanks.”

Social media users accused Gavin Newsom of using Trump to save his image as he allegedly ignored his advice before.

“You ignored all of his advice the last time he talked to you about this. GTFOH,” a netizen commented.
“Gavin Nero is now attempting to use Donald Trump to repair his political image,” a social media user opined.

Many X users said Gavin Newsom was responsible for the situation, while others anticipated Trump’s measures:

“I thought you were creating a task force to keep him away from California?” an X user wrote.
“Mr. President, what specific actions do you plan to take to address the urgent needs of displaced Americans?” a person asked.
“You are responsible. Stop trying to slither away and face what you’re done. Especially since it was all purposeful. You’re gr*ss,” an online commentator mentioned.

What did Gavin Newsom write to Donald Trump?

In his letter, Gavin Newsom reflected on the devastation caused by the Camp Fire in Paradise six years ago, California's deadliest wildfire, and the Woolsey Fire near Malibu. He noted how communities, traditions, and places were destroyed within hours and highlighted the growing impact of natural disasters, including fires, hurricanes, and floods.

Newsom further highlighted the recent devastating wildfire disaster. He mentioned that on January 7, 2025, hurricane-force winds hit Southern California, where a lack of winter rain left the land extremely dry.

These winds turned small sparks into massive fires, including the Palisades, Eaton, and Hurst fires, causing widespread destruction in the Los Angeles area.

Despite the heroic efforts of firefighters, tens of thousands of acres burned, thousands lost their homes and businesses, and at least 10 lives were lost. While extending his invitation to Trump, Newsom wrote:

“In the spirit of this great country, we must not politicize human tragedy or spread disinformation from the sidelines. Hundreds of thousands of Americans-displaced from their homes and fearful for the future-deserve to see all of us working in their best interests to ensure a fast recovery and rebuild.”

Gavin Newsom expressed gratitude for President Biden's quick approval of California's disaster declaration, emphasizing the importance of federal support. However, he warned the danger remains high, with strong winds up to 70 mph expected in the coming day and continued dry conditions.
