Controversial American streamer Ramsey Khalid Ismael, 24, widely known online as Johnny Somali, was punched by a South Korean soldier weeks after he was indicted in the country for causing a “commotion” at a convenience store in Seoul. Somali, who has gained a reputation as a provocateur over showing highly offensive video stunts, was slammed with a departure ban preventing him from leaving South Korea.

Collin Rugg shared a video on X where a South Korean soldier, Dalgeun Yu, who served on South Korea’s Underwater Demolition Team, was seen following Somali from a building to the street before punching him in the face. Somali was knocked to the ground before he was helped up by an officer at the scene. Somali was seen sporting a bloodied lip from the altercation.

Yu was immediately detained by the police officer. The soldier reportedly told local media he punched the streamer to "defend national dignity."

The soldier has garnered immense praise from social media users who slammed Somali's antics online, harassing locals in countries across Asia in an effort to boost his online views. Rugg, who shared the video online, ripped into Somali, saying:

“Punks like this give us a bad rap”

Rugg followed it up with another blistering comment, saying:

“Imagine the hatred people in these countries have for Americans because of a few clowns like this.”

Netizens sided with the Korean soldier. Reacting to the video, a social media user said:

“That was enjoyable to watch.”
“Dignity can't be bought, but apparently, it can be defended with a good right hook,” a netizen added.
Johnny Somali needs Jesus... Hopefully, he figures out a better way to live before he meets Him…” another user noted.

What did Johnny Somali do?

The incident comes days after another video showed Ramsey Khalid Ismael, aka Johnny Somali, who has over 14,000 followers on Instagram, being kicked as a group of people followed him in South Korea. Here's the video shared by local channel JTBC.

Somali provoked the ire of an entire nation after allegedly desecrating a South Korean monument dedicated to women subjected to sexual slavery by the Japanese in World War II. Johnny Somali reportedly kissed the statue before printing out a picture and showing it to passersby in Seoul.

The incident triggered widespread outrage in the country, prompting Somali to issue an apology.

In another video posted on Instagram last month, Somali appeared to be drinking alcohol in a convenience store and pouring instant noodles on a table before he cleaned it up. The live streamer was later indicted for offensive stunts and banned from leaving the country until he faces trial.

If convicted, Somali faces up to 10 years in South Korean prison.
