A single-vehicle crash involving a Tesla Cybertruck left three former Piedmont High School students dead and one injured early Wednesday morning on November 27, 2024. The accident occurred just after 3 a.m. on Hampton Road in Piedmont.

According to multiple reports, four friends who had graduated from Piedmont High School in 2023 were returning from an event in a Tesla cybertruck when it crashed into a tree and burst into flames. The victims were reportedly all home from college for the Thanksgiving holiday.

A driver in a separate vehicle who was following the cybertruck from the event pulled one of the victims from the front seat out of the burning car. Police believed the rescuer and the victims were attending the same function before the crash. The victim who sustained burns was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

Meanwhile, KRON reported that authorities were notified about the crash by an iPhone that was inside the Cybertruck at 3:08 a.m. Police arrived at the scene minutes later and used fire extinguishers to combat the flames. However, they were unsuccessful due to the intensity of the blaze. The Fire Department arrived at 3:16 a.m. and extinguished the flames. The three victims inside the car were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities believe speed was a contributing factor in the Piedmont crash. It is unclear if alcohol played a role.

Community mourns Piedmont accident victims

The community is mourning the deaths of three 2023 High School graduates who were killed in a fiery crash. According to KRON, several acquaintances of the victims placed flowers around the tree, which became a makeshift memorial. A former middle school teacher, Sandy Martin, who taught the victims, described them as “great kids.” Martin said:

“No matter the why’s, it’s just so horrible. They all have wonderful families. They were incredible kids. These are kids that lost their lives.”

Several community members offered their support to the grieving family online. In a Facebook post, a social media user said:

“Please pray and keep in your hearts the families that lost 3 children in the car accident in Piedmont this morning. Many friends were affected by this tragedy.”

Another added:

“Praying for the families of the 3 Piedmont High 23’ graduates that lost their lives this morning in a horrible car accident. My heart aches for those parents and all who loved them. My Lord.”

Police said they will not yet release the identities of the victims out of respect for grieving families.
