Luigi Mangione's classmate speaks out after his arrest
WBAL NewsRadio reporter Rachel Sawicki spoke with one of Luigi Mangione's former classmates from Gilman School, who asked to remain anonymous. The classmate described Mangione as 'one of the smarter people' at the school, noting his social nature and positive reputation.
He recalled that Mangione, a valedictorian, was 'very intelligent,' 'social,' and 'well-read.' The classmate was shocked by the recent news and said that no one ever suspected Mangione of being capable of such actions.
“Definitely caught me by surprise. The classmates of mine that I have spoken to are also extremely surprised. Again, Luigi was very social, very intelligent, very well-read, so hearing about this in the news, it’s definitely not something that we would have thought about Luigi at all.”
Luigi Mangione's classmate also noted that he initially didn’t recognize Mangione in the police photos but later connected the dots.
“When the news came out that they had a suspect in custody, or speaking with a suspect, and then it came out that it was Luigi, we kind of just put one and one together to get two, like, ‘Oh yeah, that does look like Luigi,’ but again, when the pictures were first released, definitely did not know it was Luigi.”
Another former classmate named Corey Wey also gave an interview to Fox 10 Phoenix.
According to ABC News, the police are now looking into his travel history across the United States and out of the country. While they do that, we are sure that the country is eager to find out WHY Luigi Mangione did what he did.
