A day after getting elected as the 47th president of the United States, a massive protest march opposing Donald Trump was carried out at the Federal Plaza in Chicago by the United States Palestinian Community Network.
Trump won more votes in Illinois this election than he did in the two previous elections. However, the people of Illinois expressed their opposition to the U.S. president-elect, as a large group of people carried out massive agitation.
A diverse group of individuals were reportedly seen marching through the streets while chanting slogans such as "Not my president" and "Fight for our freedom." The organizers of the protest stated that Trump was warned that this outcome was inevitable if the Gaza war persisted and U.S. funding to Israel continued.
Massive anti-Trump protests erupt in several states of America
The United States Palestinian Community Network organized the massive anti-Trump protest in Chicago. As per the reports by CBS News, Hatem Abudayyeh of the U.S. Palestinian Community stated,
"They are not going to be able to take for granted the people that are represented here, the movements that are represented here."
Lawrence Benito of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights noted that his organization is ready to respond.
"Obviously, we reject the mass deportation agenda, and we're going to continue to fight back," Benito told CBS News.
Not just in Chicago, massive protest outbursts were seen in other parts of the country. In Philadelphia, the protesters blocked major roads, leading to traffic disruption. Many of them were reportedly chanting slogans about trans rights, women's reproductive rights, and gun laws. A protester in the central square was reportedly seen holding a huge sign that said,
"Fascism - Not allowed in Philly. The outcome to the vote is extremely concerning."
"I will let people know that racism is not acceptable. S*xism, homophobia, fascism, are not acceptable in this country. I am upset and sad, I am terrified. I think a lot of people are,” the RFI reported the protester.
Another woman, Cathy O'Connel, stated in an interview that she was "incredibly disappointed" in Americans, adding,
"I don’t understand how Americans can vote for somebody who runs on a campaign which is just about power for himself, power that he doesn’t plan to share with anyone who voted for him."
Figures showed that nearly 78.29% of voters voted for Kamala Harris in Philadelphia; however, the result did not reflect nationwide.
Protesters were also seen marching down the streets of San Jose and Berkeley on Wednesday. According to the reports, around 200 protesters gathered on the streets of San Jose, while around 20 protesters were seen at the campus of UC Berkeley. In San Jose, protesters were seen holding signs that read," Legalization for all! No border militarization!" and "Ceasefire now." In Berkeley, protesters were reportedly chanting, "No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA."
Moreover, two climate protesters were reportedly arrested in London on suspicion of criminal damage after the protesters sprayed orange paint onto the U.S. Embassy building. Just Stop Oil activists revealed that they took the action in response to Trump's win.
"The only real winner of today’s election is the corporate power that controls the major parties in both the US and UK. Regardless of who sits in the White House, corporations and billionaires will ensure that the interests of the fossil fuel industry will continue to be prioritized over the wellbeing of ordinary people," said a Just Stop Oil spokesperson in a statement.
