Morris County, New Jersey, recently witnessed a strange activity: multiple drones were spotted flying over the county. Citizens are concerned about the mystery behind the flying objects. While an investigation is currently underway, the county's prosecutor's office has confirmed that there is no threat to public safety.
According to Newsweek, the unauthorized objects are described as larger than typical drones which are used for commercial purposes. The flying devices were reportedly tracked by law enforcement and police aviation units.
Netizens are widely reacting to the activity and also cracking some jokes. An X (formerly Twitter) user penned that they must be looking for the crew of Jersey Shore.
"They must be look for the Jersey shore crew."
Another one mentioned that the aliens are here.
As some mentioned that they might belong to Russia, one wrote,
"Ask yourself one question: if there were Russian surveillance drones in NJ, you really think they'd put bright flashing lights on them? No f**king brain cells left on this one."
A witness also shared some videos and photos of the devices.
"At least five large unidentified drones have been circling Morris County, New Jersey, for two hours, raising alarm among emergency services who were called in to monitor the objects."
Netizens also question the authorities about the unusual activity.
Authorities address the unauthorized drones flying over Morris County
The Morris County Prosecutor's Office has addressed the strange activity and confirmed that several agencies are working together. The statement read,
"The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, Morris County Sheriff’s Office, Morris County Office of Emergency Management, Morris County municipal police departments, along with our federal and state law enforcement partners, are aware of this activity, and will continue to coordinate, monitor and investigate the drone activity."
The authorities have asked people to be "mindful" that the rumors they read online might not be true. They confirmed that the drone activity in New Jersey took place on November 18, 2024, and was also observed by law enforcement personnel.
However, the authorities have not found the devices belong to whom.
The prosecutor's office also asked people to reach out to them in case they have any information regarding the drones.
According to NJ.com, Picatinny Arsenal, a military base in Wharton, also confirmed that the flying devices do not belong to them. Moreover, they are assisting in the investigation. They also reminded people that flying UAVs over any other federal military installation without permission is unlawful.
