The Mountain fire, a brush fire that erupted in the northwest region of Los Angeles on Wednesday, has caused extensive destruction. Over 14,000 acres have been burned by the fire, which has also destroyed many homes. A rescue mission is underway, and power has been cut off for thousands of residents.
The fire, which began shortly before 9 a.m. on Wednesday, is expected to continue until Thursday evening.
According to VCEmergency.com, a website set up for issuing information to the people of Ventura County, several areas throughout the county have been issued evacuation orders:
- Zone 1: North of Somis
- Zone 2: Saticoy Country Club
- Zone 3: Areas south of Highway 118, north of North Loop Drive and Mission Drive, west of N. Lewis Road, and east of Fairway Drive
- Zone 4: West Camarillo (Las Posas/Spanish Hills areas)
- Zone 6: Area extending south of Santa Clara River, north of Saticor County Club, west of Briggs Road, and Wast of Los Angeles Avenue
- Zone 7: Area north of Highway 101
- Zone 9: Area east of Santa Paula Community Golf Course, west of South Mountain Road as Sespe Street, north along Santa Clara River, and south of Bixby Road
- Zone 10: Area extending east of 12th Street to Willard Road and south of Highway 126.
Along with the orders, several areas have also been issued evacuation warnings.
Many schools in Ventura County remained closed amid the dangerous situation. According to CBS, campuses of schools including ACE Charter High School, Santa Paula Unified School District, Bridges Charter School, Mesa Union School District, and others are closed due to the Mountain Fire. ACE Charter High School, Mesa Union School District's two campuses, and Santa Paula Unified School District will remain closed on Friday.
The Ventura County Fire Department continues to issue updates on the Mountain Fire
The Ventura County Fire Department is continuously issuing warning in the area of the county regarding the Mountain fire. In the latest update, the department mentioned that around 800 firefighters are working at the incident.
"As of 10:30 pm the fire is currently at 14,187 acres, with at least 800 firefighters currently assigned to the incident. Firefighting operations continue through the night with both ground resources and night flying helicopters."
They also added that amid the rescue mission, "hundreds of mutual aid firefighters" are continuing to arrive on the scene from throughout California.
"Numerous structures have been impacted by this fast-moving fire. Due to safety concerns, damage estimates will begin tomorrow."
An evacuation center has been established in Camarillo for those affected by the Mountain Fire.
