Michael Fanone, a DC cop of over 20 years, is requesting protection for himself and his family in the wake of the January 6 attackers' pardon.

Fanone, who was attacked by five convicted men during the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, moved to instate protective orders against them just this Tuesday. A GoFundMe has since been launched in his honour to raise money for private security, which, according to the page, is "very costly."

All we know about Michael Fanone as he fears for his and his family's life:

Within hours after he was sworn into office, President Donald Trump doubled down on an idea he floated about pardoning or commuting the sentences of the January 6 defendants, i.e., over 1,500 people he referred to as the “J6 hostages.”

Fanone, who was reportedly dragged, beaten, tasered, and pummeled into a critical condition by five of these defendants, is now fearing for his and his family's life. As reported by NBC Washington, he said:

"The fact that I have to do this, to try to afford my family some degree of protection, is outrageous. But we are in an age of government lawlessness."

According to the GoFundMe page, in the hours following the insurrection, Michael Fanone was rushed to the hospital, unconscious. He was treated for a heart attack and a traumatic brain injury, among other things. The page also states that he has severe, ongoing PTSD.

Reportedly, in the years since, he has repeatedly been subjected to harassment and threats to his and his family's security, forcing him to quit his post of almost twenty years at the DC Metro Police, also leaving him without pension or benefits.

The page states that "Despite solid, overwhelming evidence and trial convictions that they horribly beat and nearly murdered a police officer, Trump set these dangerous, vindictive thugs loose. Many have already boasted they “would do it again,” some stating they were already arming up."

Read the rest of the page, which is accompanied by several gruesome images of Michael Fanone in a vulnerable state, in part below:

"Mike and his family are now in clear danger of retribution. They have all been threatened. Mike’s mom who’s nearly 80 has even been disgustingly, repeatedly tormented and disgustingly accosted at her home. While he’s filed with the court for protection for his family, even if that comes through, the Fanones now desperately require private security. This is obviously very costly."

The page also states that Michael Fanone has long been struggling to land a steady job, given that while every employer has appreciated him for being a hero, he's allegedly “too polarizing” to employ. "Fanone’s been left with no benefits nor healthcare coverage for him and his family," the page notes.

"Michael Fanone risked his life and kept his oath to America. To us. His heroism, bravery, patriotism, honesty, sacrifice and adherence to his oath embody what’s best about our nation. He deserves our respect and help," his GoFundMe states.

At the time of writing, well over $62,000 has been raised ahead of the $250,000 goal. With alms coming in from over 750 patrons, the page has a staggering 75% to go to fulfil its goal.
